About this product

Product Information

David Hall

The 1919-D is scarce in circulated grades, rare in Mint State condition, and very rare in Gem condition. In fact, in Gem condition the 1919-D is the rarest Denver Mint Buffalo nickel of the 1913 to 1919 era. Most, but not all, Mint State survivors are found with decent strikes. Luster is usually a cross between satiny and frosty. This is a rare coin, but when found it can be quite nice.

Your request regarding 1919D Very nice higher grade circulated buffalo nickel

It is a nice looking coin with only a small amount of wear on it. However, the following issues cut the grading and reduce the value. It has a weak strike that leaves off the top side of the liberty on obverse. And, the buffalo head- horn has some weak strike issues or wear. You had it graded Fine with what I would consider to be a Very Fine grade price. I left the recommendations blank as grades always depend on value and we just try to get them close and sometimes we miss. Thanks, Ralph

  • It's my fault

I don't recall it being mentioned that the coin had been totally restored. There was no patina and the coin looked as if a wire brush had been run over it several times leaving grooves. The coin arrived in a jacket labelled, "FULL COIN RESTORE", which made the value of the coin much less. I should have been more careful when I saw the low price. Still, I bought it and that makes me the idiot in this scenario. I will learn from my mistake.

  • My Honest Review Of The Denver-Minted Buffalo Nickel Of 1919

The 1919-D Buffalo Nickel is a semi-key date that is worth buying at the right price anytime! There were only 8,006,000 of these Nickels produced and these are more expensive than the 1919-S in G to VF grades.
