Great for the job I needed it for
I build models, HO scale, mostly buildings and industries, for my own pleasure, and more recently, a model railroad I am still working on. The cork road bed for the model track is, as it turns out, the same thickness as this foam board. And the reason I bought it was to use the boards as a base for my buildings so that they would not stick up so high (previously used 1/2" blue insulation board), and be more level with the track. The boards were falling apart between layers when I received them, but the supplier quickly replaced the box. Very pleased with that. However, the surface does have a little waviness to them. Almost like the corrugations are showing through the outer layers. For my purpose, it won't matter a hoot, as it will all be covered up with scenery and the buildings. I ... I haven't used them as yet, and am hoping the shiny surface won't pose a problem for the glues I use (mainly white Elmer's glue). I am sure the surface can be sanded down to roughen it up if the glue was a problem. If you need a high quality foam board, you might have to look elsewhere, but I was going for inexpensive as they will be cut up and hidden from sight. The inner foam is soft, and pliable, and will compress if you squeeze the board, especially at the edges. Another purpose of these for me was to use them as a fascia around the layout. Something to give it a finished look. I have included a couple of pictures showing the surface, and the waviness is noticeable.
