WARDH, and ALL THE COLORS OF THE DARK. Irina Rouvigny (Anita Strinberg) is the much-put-upon wife of an alcoholic, abusive novelist who delights in humiliating her. His wandering eyes and hands, however, become of secondary importance when young girls begin turning up murdered in and around the couple's luxurious chateau. Recalling Edgar Allen Poe's "The Black Cat," the couple bury the evidence behind a brick wall in their cellar, while their pet looks on. Meanwhile, their comely niece Floriana (Edwidge Fenech, SECRETS OF A CALL GIRL) turns up to stay for a spell. Fascinating Giallo in it's original Italian!!!!!
Any fan of the Giallo genre will enjoy this gem. The plot is tight, and chilling. Suspense will keep you guessing right up until the very end. There are very fine interviews with screen writer, Ernesto Gastaldi, actress Edwige Fenech and director, Sergio Martino. Twenty five minutes of interviews brings new light to this giallo classic. For instance, Sergio Martino and Ernesto Gastaldi bring up pertinent connections to other giallos, such as "Torso" (Martino) and The Horrible Dr. Hichcock (L'orribile segreto del Dr. Hichcock) (Gastaldi) which are fascinating. Fans of those films will find it interesting to view these interviews found on this DVD (Your Vice Is A Locked Room And Only I Have The Key). It should be noted that this DVD version, by NoShame Films, is uncut and widescreen, remastered and is a first of it's quality to be released in America. Color/1972/92 minutes. Italian Mono/English Mono with the option of English Subtitles. This is very special as many of the best classic giallos were done in Italian only to have English dubbed over them. My Italian is passable so I don't need the English subs. For those who do, they are available so you can watch the film in the original Italian and still follow the plot.
