    Great Read of WWII history, romance and human interest.

    This book may be a legend in a few years. It is a story of a North Carolina now who was raised in the shadow of the Biltmore Estate and experienced living the good life until his father lost his position as manager of a furniture manufacturing plant until the Great Depression forced him and many others into un-employment. He would soon experience the sting of near poverty and he learned how how less fortunate families lived. He quickly learned to adapt to his new challenges and learned to fly airplanes for the US Army (Air Corps). He would eventually lead his crew to becoming the first crew to achieve twenty-five missions in the North Atlantic. His crew flew missions over France and Germany and a little island called Helgoland, a little island made known as the site of the crash and death of Joseph Kennedy, whose plane crashed after he and his crew volunteered for hazardous duty over the island. The Memphis Belle was the seeetheart and later fiancé of the pilot, Robert K Morgan, Jr. The novel is filled with interesting facts about Morgan, the “war,” Asheville, NC and, of course “the Memphis Belle.” Col. Morgan would later return to duty in the South Pacific where he and his crew were a part of the squadron that participated in the bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
