Synopsis
"The I Ching", or "Book of Changes", a common source for both Confucianist and Taoist philosophy, is one of the first efforts of the human mind to place itself within the universe. It has exerted a living influence in China for 3,000 years, and interest in it rapidly spreads in the West., The bestselling English translation of the ancient classic of Chinese divination that has inspired millions with its timeless insights into the changing nature of existence The I Ching , or Book of Changes, has exerted a living influence in China for thousands of years. Today, it continues to enrich the lives of readers around the world. First set down in the dawn of history as a book of oracles, it grew into a book of wisdom with the inclusion of commentaries on its oracular pronouncements, eventually becoming one of the Five Classics of Confucianism and providing a common source for both Confucianist and Taoist philosophy. This edition of the I Ching is the most authoritative and complete translation available, preserving the spirit of the ancient text while providing a vital key for anyone who seeks to live harmoniously with the immutable law of change. The book presents the sixty-four hexagrams of the I Ching along with their texts and interpretations in a format especially designed for easy reference. Unlike many editions of the I Ching , it also features the Ten Wings, supplemental writings traditionally ascribed to Confucius that provide indispensable insights into the symbolic structure of the hexagrams and their place in a cosmology where change is the only constant. With an illuminating foreword by C. G. Jung and an informative introduction by Richard Wilhelm, this beautiful edition of the I Ching shares the essence of wisdom and a true understanding of life., TheI Ching, or Book of Changes, a common source for both Confucianist and Taoist philosophy, is one of the first efforts of the human mind to place itself within the universe. Welcome Back, Old Friend

In my young adulthood, I consulted the I Ching with great regularity, but life happened and busy with other things, I let it slip away. After a divorce, my husband got custody of my copy and I had been without it for several years. I am a mature Christian, and my Bible is my main, though not sole, source of study. I began recalling how the I Ching spoke to me as a young woman, and always gave me the perfect advice and suddenly I missed it very much which is what prompted my order. Some see it as mystical, i see it as another way God can speak directly to me through the written word. When it arrived, I felt as if an old friend had returned home. I won't let this copy go!

  • I Ching

I have been interested in I Ching since the 1960s. I had a 1967 edition that was stolen from me in 2007, so finding this was great. This version explains the hexagrams much better than newer translations and you get a better feel for how to translate it to your current situation.

  • Best book for consulting a choice

If you are interested in Chinese philosophy/spiritual beliefs, this book is for you. However (spoiler alert!) I have a dear Chinese friend who, when she learned that I followed the I Ching, got very upset, and said that it was "very deep". It IS very deep: I learned to use it back in the '60s when we were familiar with these things. It will sometimes tell you things you don't want to hear, but it's right on the money (even if it's inscrutable at the time).

  • Foundation

As a beginner to the I Ching, this is deep and heady. I'm confident a steady perusal of this book will give me as good a foundation as any in Chinese wisdom. The copy I received had obviously been well-cared for. Thanks
