    Good, but not great top tier flash

    The Leica SF 58 is a good flash, but not as well designed like competitor versions. Two major reasons. 1) This flash has major design flaw where it has 'two flashes', the main one on top and a second flash on the front. This makes no sense, because if you want to bounce flash your shots, the front flash negates the bounce flash producing overexposed shots. Not sure why Leica designed this flash with this unnecessary feature. 2) The flash recycles decently, but not as fast. Some good things about the SF 58 1) Professional build quality 2) Menu options are easy to understand 3) Very powerful flash output, must be conscious of distance between and subject because of 2nd front flash not to overexpose image.

    This flash has s reputation for being a bit strong but I think if I try at different distances and settings, I can make it work!

    Great Leica Companion

    Everything works as expected on my M6 TTL. This is basically like my Metz 54MZ. The Metz with the correct SCA module behaves very well, too. They're nicely made, consistent and accurate. They both seem to be about 1/2 stop under exposing according to my flash meter but photos turn out well and I imagine this helps in avoiding so much of the direct flash washout look that can happen with flash so it serves me well when I require a flash.
