SynopsisThis highly detailed reference book is for both novice and experienced collectors, and is focused on the World War II U.S.-made, fully machine-embroidered, cut edge shoulder sleeve insignia (SSI). It provides guidelines that can be considered when determining whether a SSI is original World War II era manufactured or not. Also, the differences in SSI manufacturing are explained in such way as to create a timeline in a patch collection. Knowing these details will add to the personal value of a collection and make it much more than simply just having a group of patches. In addition, the book will help collectors avoid spending money on something that is not what it seems: copies; reproductions of World War I, Interwar, or World War II SSIs; and post-World War II SSIs. This information will add to the experience one builds as a collector and historian., And How They Were Manufactured A Collectors Guide. U.S.-Made, Fully Machine-Embroidered, Cut Edge Shoulder Sleeve Insignia of World War II
My very positive review of my new book, World War II made, flly machine-embroidered cut-edge. shoulder sleeve insignia
I have a large military patch collection,(16.000 ), with many variations. While collecting I saw many types of stitching and different backs, different sizes to the the same patch. Often I have featured the back of these patches knowing they were authentic.
Other then see an explanation on eBay or from another collector and yes in other book dedicated to patch collecting.. I have found that this book, World War II U.S.made fully machine-embroidered, cut-edge, shoulder sleeve insignia is the book I have relative to these questions. I found the explanation was clear and often accompanied with color photographs, After reading some of explanations I was able to place a notation beneath many of the patches in my collection. This book also gave some history about the unit and why some of those patches were changed, see Chapter 9 relative to the 45th Infantry Division patches..
I highly recommend this book to those who collect patches/insignias based on the many things I learned about my hobby.
