This is an awesome monitor. I had a 25" inch before this with full, standard HD (1920x1080). This Dell has 2560x1440 resolution, making everything crisp and clear. Text is clearer not only from the higher resolution, but the "In-Plane Switching" technology make a much better contrast, in my opinion, between white background and dark text. Most other monitors use the "TN" type technology. For Gaming, the only reason to pay this much for a monitor besides professional photo/video editing or CAD drawing programs, the high resolution is nice but even with a Radeon 5870, some games struggle to maintain a high frame-rate. The high resolution is almost twice the pixels to be driving. Most impressive is the well advertised color reproduction. Colors are true to their form and deep and proper. Greens are green, blues are blue and reds are red. Imagine that. I had a good quality TN type monitor which advertised its color depth as well. Nothing touches this type of technology I've seen except may Plasma's, but they have burn in problems and require a lot of power. This has a high response rate for gaming and enough screen real-estate and pixels for doing side-by-side applications comfortably. If you want an Apple 27" Cinema Display, do you want it to come with HDMI, DVI, or VGA? A Power Button? An adjustable stand? A glare free screen? A toilet paper dispenser? (I made this one have one just for impressing my wife, since it is expensive) Well good luck. They once again made their stuff only compatible with their overpriced stuff. A mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort adapter wouldn't work with the 5800 series video card I have, so Apple shoots themselves in the foot again by making a monitor with not only a highly reflective screen, but one that only works with their stuff. PLUS*** You pay $100 bucks for a 3-year warranty for APPLES Monitor, this one comes with a 3-year warranty and a no White-Pixel Warranty. Beat That Apple. I would buy this again but for gaming, if you have room, either get a 32-55" TV or another $400 Video Card. Overall, for school work and gaming, It's worth it. By the way, my Hannspree last 14months. Stay away from that brand (Best Buy's).Read full review
Bought this monitor to upgrade my old Gateway LCD- TFT 21 FPD2185W 1680 x 1050 Res that has been serving me since 2006 among my APPLE Cinema 23 1920 x 1200 Res so, preparing my self in advance for the new arrival, had 1st to upgrade my video card to a ATI Radeon 9650 256MB which supports the impressive resolution of 2560 x 1440 in my new DELL U2711. Ver A04 Unpacking and connecting this beast was a breeze about 15 min what a beautiful experience, has been pass just a month w/it and not complaints at all, a total satisfaction and happiness. The main reasons that lead me to acquire this great Monitor were the new DELL IPS Technology applied instead the traditional TFT. The magnificent software that give U. numerous features and a wide variety of configurations to obtain the desired gamma of colors, to work on the wished environment, graphics, photo edition, web surf or watch movies, unique settings are available w/the touch up on the screen digital interface. and of course the arrayed set of connections ex: HDMI. just name it and is there waiting to be hooked. I like the full card reader, USB ports, viewing angle of 178x178 is outstanding, the IPS Technology that supports over a billion of colors is phenomenal. the sensitive touch up digital interface that are displayed on the screen, guide U. to gain full control on the commands and settings is just marvelous. Black mate cabinet, the bezels do not distract U. from the screen main content, trying to find a bad point or a downside to mention, will be only the CCFL Backlight system, instead to have the new LED which possibly last longer and output excellent brightness, but honestly not to envy, because this DELL has the ability to perform solid, powerful contrast of brightness with out a blink, thanks to the friendly accurate interface. Comparing this beast w/ any other of the today LCD monitors, similar in price, size and features is simply very difficult, because all the package of technology build into this unit, is reflected by the obtained performance, that make this machine very reliable, the price is kinda high MSRP $1290 But I got it for $790 shipped (using $45 Ebay bonus) but trust me my fellows e-bayers every single nickel worth the paid price, for what are U. getting in return. Well I hope this personal comments reviewing this great Monitor, would be of some help in to decide the acquisition of U. next dreamed DELL 27 inches, LCD Monitor with the IPS new Technology, Rev A04 computers companion.Read full review
Overall, this is an excellent monitor for those wanting a high-resolution (2560x1440) monitor for graphics design, publishing, and general business applications. PROS: Performance for the price, Resolution, Sharpness, Brightness, Color controls, Height and angle adjustments, Variety of inputs (DVI-D, VGA, component video, HDMI, etc.) CONS: For 2560x1440 resolution, you must have a graphics card with DVI DUAL LINK capability, power-on takes about 7 seconds (much slower than my prior dual 17" Dell LCDs). I have been very pleased using this for the past couple weeks for ad design, newspaper layout, editing large spreadsheets, etc. Compared to the typical $1200+ current price for 2560x1600 LCDs from HP and others, the current eBay price around $900 for this Dell monitor is reasonable. The main issue I encountered was that the graphics card in my 2007 Dell XPS410, a 256 Mbyte ATI Radeon X1300 PRO that supported dual 17" LCDs just fine, does not support DVI DUAL-LINK operation even if you install the latest drivers posted on the AMD ATI web site. As a result, the monitor wouldn't operate at 2560x1440. Using the VGA connector, the maximum resolution is 2048x1152. I replaced my ATI card with a PNY Nvidia GeForce GT 220 1 Gbyte and its been smooth sailing ever since. I haven't used it for games or watching HDMI video but based on my experiences so far, you won't go wrong with this monitor.Read full review
I have had this monitor for about a month now and really love it. It is very adjustable and has a number of features that I really like. I like the capacitive buttons on the screen and the size and clarity of it as well. It also has different modes that you can access for different situations. These modes automatically adjust the screen resolution, brightness and contrast depending on what you are doing. You can also adjust all this manually but it is a good feature to have. It has a variety of different input sources, like HDMI and USB, and is also compatible with the dell sound bar which I have also seen on eBay. I have found that the extra USB ports on the monitor come in very handy for any extra peripherals that I want to add. I have some speakers plugged in to the monitor as well as a usb mouse. It is also very adjustable in both height and angle. I recommend this monitor highly if you can deal with the cost because it is also able to view at very high resolutions.Read full review
I have four of these monitors. The feature set of this display is remarkable -27" 2560 x 1440 (max) WQHD Resolution -16:9 Widescreen Aspect Ratio -80,000: 1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio -In-Plane Switching technology (IPS) delivers crisp/sharp/bright images and over 1 billion colors -An extraordinary arry of inputs But, you have to ask yourself, do you really need it for your intendted purposes? This is an amazing unit for CAD and Graphics work, other than that I think it may be a waste of money. -There is a slight input lag that makes the monitor less than ideal for gaming -It throws off more heat than I would have imagined -Do you need ips technology? for 99% of what most people do an inexpensive TN panels looks just as good -The high res can be a curse and a blessing. I know of people that end up running this display in 1920x1080 mode because of the very small pixel size. -It's not that much larger than a 24" 16:10 display (which can be had for under $200 these days) -It has a coating on the screen, at this price point I think Dell would have been smart to keep the display glossy. All in all I am satisifed with my purchase as I do CAD & Graphics work 12-15 hours a day, but if were a casual home or typical busines user I would keep looking.Read full review
