Good amount of power. Audio settings are a pain. I'm using it just for music and theirs only so much tweaking you can do with this receiver. The surround sound I can't speak for. A bluetooth transmitter with the fiber optic connection is a good idea if you want good sound and better volume using a wireless device to play music. I'm running on front speakers with 4 sets of Bose 301s ran in a parallel series making 8ohms. Its loud!

This receiver is amazing, great sound and video output. I'm very satisfied with. Be sure to have good speakers, or you would "fried" bad ones. The only bad thing for me is the remote control, it would not be reeded in darkness, and I think yamaha have to make a separate manual to program external peripherals to work with the control. Be patient connecting this amp, and take time reading the manual to set it correctly. If you don't read and learn how to use it, probably you don't take the better sound it could make.
I picked one up with a power conditioner for 125.00. I just needed a 1080p for the bedroom. This unit was simple to setup, and it sounds really high end on my RBH MC6-ct. It has more refined sound than my old HTR-6090. The picture quality is phenomenal.
