  • Genuine Gould

Gould's interpretations are interestingly quirky, sometimes extracting a strong emotive response (at least from me) especially in more slowly-paced pieces. I find that depth of feeling to be lacking in many performances by others. On the other hand, I found Gould's quirkiness to be distracting in some cases, as is his sometimes audible humming along with the piano. The technical quality of the recording is great. Be aware, though that a portion of the recording is devoted to Scarlotti and C. P. E. Bach; so the album title misleads when it simply says "Bach". I would have preferred more J.S. Bach, in place of the C.P.E. Bach. since C.P.E. compositions seem notably "thinner" than his father's. Overall, a set of performances worth hearing.
