About this product

Product Information

Los Angeles is a city of perpetual reinvention. Inviting, with a promise of infinite hope, it can also be a glittering landscape of debilitating isolation. The city's lost souls take comfort in its promise--the notion that tomorrow could be the day to start all over again, to transform oneself into someone else. Someone more powerful, more beautiful, more daring. At the core ofL.A. Requiemis Joe Pike, a former cop with a past as dark and foreboding as his demeanor. His only stable relationship is with his partner of twelve years, Elvis Cole, a talented and quick-witted PI with skeletons in his own past. When Pike's former lover is found dead at a reservoir in the Hollywood Hills, the duo is brought in by the woman's father to monitor the police investigation. But Pike's no stranger to the men and women in the LAPD's elite Robbery-Homicide Division, at least one of whom has been harboring a long-buried desire for revenge. With a rich cast of characters reminiscent of Raymond Chandler's classicThe Long Goodbye,L.A. Requiemis the apotheosis of Crais's writing career--a gripping novel that envelops Cole and Pike in an ever-tightening web of conspiracies, secrets, and mortal passions that threatens to destroy their friendship, and leave one, or both, dead.

Praise forL.A. Requiemand Robert Crais: "After Chandler we had James M. Cain and after Cain there was Ross MacDonald and currently we have Robert Crais." --The Los Angeles Times Book Review "One of the best crime novels I've ever read. Absolutely terrific!" --David Baldacci "L.A. Requiemis terrific entertainment and a powerful portrait of Los Angeles in our time: swift, colorful, gripping, a real knockout." --Dean Koontz "The trouble with starting a Robert Crais book is that you just can't put it down until you finish it. Crais is one of the great ones." --Tony Hillerman "Robert Crais--should be mentioned in the same breath as Robert B. Parker, Tony Hillerman, Sue Grafton, and James Lee Burke." --Houston Chronicle "I've been a Robert Crais fan since I first read the galleys ofThe Monkey's Raincoat...Crais is a terrific writer." --Sue Grafton

  • L.A. Requiem, Classic Mystery Novel, Memorable Characters

Robert Crais is one of my favorite authors altho, I just discovered him a year ago. I listen to a lot of audio books, especially mysteries, & also a fan of Raymond Chandler. Both have made LA a canvas for their tales-I go to Google Maps & follow the stories around LA-getting to know it well! I so wanted a signed copy of one of his books & LA Requiem is ,perhaps, his best work-classic.He's a great read-once you've met Elvis Cole& Joe Pike you'll be "forever fans"!

  • You've got to read this one!

Robert Crais is one of my favorite writers of detective mysteries along with James Lee Burke and Michael Connelly. But, L.A. Requiem is probably the best book I've ever read. Elvis Cole takes a back seat as Pike emerges as the true American hero. Fantastic read.

  • Great reading and a new author to read.

Someone gave me a book by Robert Crais and i put it at the back of my other books that i had planned to read and then i opened this book and couldn't put it down and since then i've read four other books by the same author and have another couple or three on order; this guy is just that good. i wish i knew the man that gave me the book in the first place so i could thank him for giving me another author that i can't get enough of.

  • Favorite!

This is a great Elvis and Joe story. My favorite Crais book.
