About this product

Product Information

Set in 1962; Produced and released in 1973. AMERICAN GRAFFITI presents a powerful collage of youth on the brink of maturity just before the assassination of J.F.K.. Based on George Lucas's own teenage hot-rodding days in Modesto, California, this brilliant, bittersweet comedy inspired numerous other productions, including the long-running TV series HAPPY DAYS. Lucas's second feature film (following THX 1138), AMERICAN GRAFFITI contains an early screen appearance by Harrison Ford, who would figure heavily in the director's next movie, the sci-fi epic STAR WARS. The film follows one night in the lives of several recently graduated high school students. The genial Steve (Ron Howard) prepares to leave for college the next day, and Laurie (Cindy Williams), his girlfriend, is upset by his impending departure. Laurie's brother, Curt (Richard Dreyfuss), the class intellectual, is also slated for college, but he has serious doubts about his future. Also included here are the hopeless nerd (Charles Martin Smith) and the eternally cool drag racer, John (Paul LeMat), who feels pressure to live up to his reputation. A nostalgic feeling is evoked in seeing the teenagers cruising in their hot rods, eating at Mel's Diner, and listening to Wolfman Jack spin the latest hits, with the camera jumping from character to character as they each enjoy--or fret over--their last moments of summer freedom.

What a great experience. Michael 537 immediately responded to my purchase & the book was sent out right away. I received the book in 6 days, which included a weekend. That is lighting-fast for a book. The packaging was the finest I've ever seen for a book. The book was excellent condition, better than advertised, & it was even a signed copy. I shopped around and this was the best price I could find. This is a seller aiming to please,& I'm very pleased!

5-Stars Transaction. FWW Magazine Collection of 6 Issues was exactly as advertised- no nasty surprises. Actually, the seller was conservative in the condition assessment. A few of the magazine issues were in near mint condition, and all were in EXCELLENT condition. A shipping label was created the day I paid. The package was shipped two days after I paid, plus it was ALSO in the custody of the USPS that SAME DAY! Free shipping and seller used a nice bubble-wrap equipped mailing envelope.

  • If Only......

If only George Lucas was still the wunderkind he was when he was making this movie...... Granted, this movie leans on the Black and White Morality trope by pulling a Pleasantville when it states the early 1960's was the best time ever. However, that is no excuse to not point out the music. It is scored by songs played on the radio station Wolfman Jack works at in this movie and such a unique way of using songs to score your movie was rare at the time this came out and only done on films like Easy Rider. Plus, the characters all have futures to think about and two of them will go off to college when their night of fun is over. There's even some stony scenes for stoners to get hooked too. So, there may be something for everyone after all.
