Formed in the late 1970's in London, Siouxsie and the Banshees rose up to be one of the most notable, pioneering bands in punk rock/gothic music history. Siouxsie Sioux and her band have influenced popular bands from The Smiths to Jane's Addiction and collaborated with the Cure (perhaps accounting for the similarity in hairstyle.) Ya gotta love Siouxsie -- she's a modern rock ICON!!
This is a great VHS collection of the best music videos from Siouxsie & The Banshees from about 1982 through 1992. Although many of their videos from the 80's seem low-budget and rather cheesy by today's standards, you musty remember that this was typical of nearly ALL 80's music videos. But its the music that really counts anyway, and the Banshees' post-punk/modern rock was at the very forefront of alternative rock -- long, long before alternative was ever even labeled as such. Plus, their sound has aged well and for the most part still remains pretty freaking cool & edgy even now in 2008. Siouxsie is one of the original kick-butt punk rock chicks, and The Banshees were one of the VERY few punk rock bands that managed to evolve beyond that narrow genre & eventually break into the ... This is a great VHS collection of the best music videos from Siouxsie & The Banshees from about 1982 through 1992. Although many of their videos from the 80's seem low-budget and rather cheesy by today's standards, you musty remember that this was typical of nearly ALL 80's music videos. But its the music that really counts anyway, and the Banshees' post-punk/modern rock was at the very forefront of alternative rock -- long, long before alternative was ever even labeled as such. Siouxsie is one of the original kick-butt punk rock chicks, and The Banshees were one of the VERY few punk rock bands that managed to evolve beyond that narrow genre & eventually break into the mainstream. Best of all, they did this WITHOUT ever compromising their integrity and while always retaining their own unique & very distinctive sound. Over the years they migrated toward more contemporary pop, but they still always kept that dark, gothic flavor very much alive -- even while mastering the art of balancing it with catchy pop hooks. Highlights on this VHS collection include a cover of the Beatles' classic "Dear Prudence", as well as "Cities In Dust", "Peek-A-Boo", "Kiss Them For Me" (their only Top 40 song in the US), and "Face To Face" (from the film "Batman Returns" -- and oh yes, Siouxsie was a sublimely perfect choice to record the featured song from the undisputed best of the Batman movies!!!). If you were a child of the 80's & liked "modern rock", then this collection is an absolute must-have! Its never been released on DVD (what a shame!), and its now out of print for VHS too. But if you can't find the "Twice Upon a Time" video collection, then at least get the audio CD which is widely available. Also check out "Once Upon A Time" (both on VHS and audio CD) for the best of The Banshees' earlier work (circa 1977-1981) -- Its much rougher and rawer, and with lots more "in-your-face" punk attitude, but its got its fair share of classics as well.
