No competition for true surround headsets even for today
What it boils down to is this, if you want a headset that can do real 5.1 surround sound really well, this is the best set there is. Sound quality, built, and longevity might not be subpar, but the accuracy and natural feel of the surround sound aspect is excellent. I've tried a lot of true surround sound headsets (Vibras Five.One, Roccat Kave XTD, Sharkoon Xtatic) and virtual surround headsets (USB dongle type, sound card, software), and the problem is always the same: accuracy and natural sounding surround, They all feel gimmicky, a novelty. Hardware/true surround headsets have a problem that no manufacturer seems to understand; if sound comes from any one given channel, it isn't naturally heard from only one side of your head/ear. For example, foot steps played in the left rear ... What it boils down to is this, if you want a headset that can do real 5.1 surround sound really well, this is the best set there is. Sound quality, built, and longevity might not be subpar, but the accuracy and natural feel of the surround sound aspect is excellent. Hardware/true surround headsets have a problem that no manufacturer seems to understand; if sound comes from any one given channel, it isn't naturally heard from only one side of your head/ear. For example, foot steps played in the left rear channel should be heard mainly by your left ear as well as in lower volume and with a slight delay on your right ear (i.e. how a home surround system with speakers work and how movies and games are made). That is part of how our audio localization works! It is not only about the arrangement of drivers in one earcup! All manufacturers do not take that into consideration so in game, it feels strange, confusing to have noise coming only from one ear even if it's from the rear/front of that ear. Your ears/brain simply does not know how to process that; where is that sound coming from when only one ear hears it? With practice, you do get sound information that will tell you it's roughly in a quadrant but you need conscious processing/thinking to understand it. This just doesn't work for pinpointing sound nor a cinematic experience. Software or virtual surround processing has made leaps but personally, they change the sound too much and often, the reverberations are just too great and it becomes a complete mess even with highend standard stereo headsets. You get simply an overwhelming soundscape. So these sound tube channel things from the Psyko headset try to fix just this foundamental problem. Each channel reaches both ears with a proportioned delay/volume change so sounds aren't just more natural, but your head knows what to do with that information. They really do work well and nothing has gotten close to it throughout the years. And throughout the years it has been, something like 10 years worth. I'm sure you've now heard of all the reviews summarizing all the downsides of these cans. The drivers are not of high quality or the travel through the sound tubes degrades the quality too much. I haven't tried the later premium version "Carbon" edition but I suppose this is not an easy to solve problem. Just imagine the most expensive and best sounding headphones you can find, and then listening to the sound with the drivers at the end of tubes... the sound isn't terrible, especially when you're heavy in the action bits of a game, but I don't think anyone would be getting these for traditionally quantified sound quality. And yes, these tubes do crack at the seams through use (the later ones come with zip ties wrapped around them). So take care of them if you are still using them. In conclusion, they're perfect for surround sound accuracy and feel. And at a good price these days, a headset dedicated to that while you have other sets for other things is just fine for me. Try them!

The only reason I bought this headset was for sound separation while gaming, being able to pin point enemy footsteps, and this headset does that perfectly. I'm a casual PC gamer that only spends about an hour or so each time I game, so comfort is not a priority, This headset is heavy so long gaming may become uncomfortable. In 2023 this headset out performs most of the 7.1 Virtual Surround Sound Headsets in terms of sound separation., Ive used Triton's, Turtle Beaches, Astros, MadCatz just to name a few. Would of given 5 stars if the Headset was lighter and more comfortable. The only reason I bought this headset was for sound separation while gaming, being able to pin point enemy footsteps, and this headset does that perfectly.
