    Pure Gershwin by Michael Feinstein

    First of all, the artist is not Jimmy Webb, but Michael Feinstein, who is as brilliant on this CD of George Gershwin hits as he is in person. Feinstein prides himself on his research of Gershwin songs and writings, so his own interpretations are excellent and realistic. I have enjoyed the tape of this album before, but one of my kids liked it so much I was soon looking for another. When my daughter, who performs broadway musicals, discovered that I had the Michael Feinstein treatments of Gershwin, it did not take her long to borrow it and latch on to it --- I have not seen it since, but I did at least manage to put the music on my computer so I have it every work day. Feinstein's own mastery of Gershwin compositions is evident here and it confirms that the music is truly a work of ...

    Nostalgia galore

    I bought the album mainly because of "Isn't It A Pity?" duet with Rosemary Clooney but ended up loving the entire album. The Gershwins are always great, of course, and their lyric and music interpreted by Feinstein brings to mind the golden years of American music. There is a disclaimer in the package that says unrefined sounds from digital restoration may be heard--negligible! A must for collectors of Gershwin and American music.
