Initial setup has problems with Android phones. I had to use a Fire tablet to set it up. They suggest Apple or PC for Initial setup then the Android phones work well after that. You can map all the zones as well as head type and placement. You can put a custom picture of each zone. You can manually set up the system or allow it to set a schedule based on weather, land slope, and composition. The system changes between zones before the time is finished to allow water to soak in and not just run off. Installation is very easy. If you want to run drip systems for plants as well you can set this up also. This is a very customizable system. After you map your zones the system gives you approximate square footage. You need a good wifi signal at the Installation location.

This Rachio 3 smart sprinkler system works very well and has many more features then my previous system that stopped working because the company went out of business. I bought it as an Open Box Unused system, deeply discounted. The price was very good, but the power supply in the box was not the correct one. It was a 24 volt DC power brick. Most watering systems, including this Rachio 3, require a 24 volt AC power brick. When I tried to use the CD power supply the water would not turn off. Finally, after reading the online specs for the Rochio 3, I realized the problem. Fortunately, the power brick from my old defunct controller worked with the Rochio 3, so I was able to work with it. I don't know how the brick got switched and I did not contact the seller, because i bought it several months ago and was not able to install it until June. THat's why I gave it a 4 instead of 5 star rating.Read full review

Purchased to replace a legacy Irritrol controller that was not wi-fi enabled. Found the Rachio3 to be an excellent upgrade. Immediate connection to my mesh wifi with no issues reported by users of older Rachio units. Has been operational for several weeks with no problems of any kind. Wireless controller is easily setup through the Rachio app. Very intuitive and functions exactly as you'd expect. One very cool feature is the ability to mark on a google map overhead shot (or images you supply) the location of every sprinkler head in your lawn. Love it! Some other great features, too, like weather-aware watering that skips a cycle if significant rainfall is happening. Wiring the controller was also very easy. Unlike the old Irritrol unit (which had multiple rows of screw-type terminals), the connections to the Rachio3 are all in single row of push-style connectors. Very accessible, clearly labeled and mechanically secure. I enthusiastically recommend this product to everyone looking to upgrade their irrigation to 21st century! Read full review

I purchased the Rachio 3 Sprinkler Control Box to replace a failing 20+ year old Orbit 8 Zone Control Box. The transfer between units was quick and painless. The addition of the WiFi capability with online weather information has resulted in several skipped watering events due to rain over night. The savings has increased to almost 1000 gallons of city water in approximately 1 month. It will take a few months before I realize the water bill savings. I expect the savings to justify the cost of the Rachio 3.

I now own two of these controllers. One is at my home, and one is at my shop. They stay connected to my Wi-Fi, and I can control the sprinklers from anywhere. It is really helpful during maintenance inspections. I can turn the on and off as needed as I check and replace heads. I highly recommend the Rachio 3.
