All the players were personal favorites-- every single one, even including the wildly rambunctous bassist Richard Davis. Then I listened to it, and it played like a riddle, as in: why are these compositions and these performances so ridiculously abstruse? I'll admit now, though wdn't have back then, that I thought they were flaunting their "far-out" chops at the expense of meaningful playing. • A great repast

Dolphy: Out to Lunch I decided to follow up after hearing some live recordings with my main guy of the era, 'trane, when I realized that Dolphy held his own, and did his own thing and I liked it. I'm a rocker, not a jazzer - this stuff is great late at night when I want to turn everything else off and focus on the music.

  • Strange, weird & beautiful...

Along with Van Morrison /Astral Weeks this is music not of this world, in a good way. Essential Avant-garde Jazz.

very intense cd,and without a shadow of a doubt, one of my personal favorite cd's in my collection, eric dolphy, was a true visionary, and a true innovator, although his carrer was cut short by an untimely death, his legacy still lives, and we still have his music to enjoy.essential listening.
