I own two no-longer-functioning Pentax IQ Zoom 105 cameras, which I have used and loved for almost 20 years. This model was Camera of the Year when it was first made. It has the ability to over and underexpose by half stops up and down to 3 total stops. It has MODES, which enable the photographer to get into the picture herself, stop action in consecutive frames, make time exposures, and take pictures over a long period of time. The flash can be controlled, or completely turned off. The lens is excellent and produces sharp images. In the past, I have enlarged some of my 35 mm negatives to 11 x 14 prints. I bought this camera because the seller assured me that it had been tested with film and worked perfectly. It does, except for a loud CLUNK when it is opened, which does not seem to affect the functioning at all.Read full review
Our Pentax Zoom 105-R Film Camera died and the Pentax service center said it was "unfixable". We loved the point and shoot simplicity of the camera, its size, and the quality of the prints we could get from 35mm film. So I shopped ebay and found several auctions offering the exact replacement camera we wanted. I won one of the auctions, received the camera in good shape, began using it and just got our first roll of film prints back - they came out great! So we are back in business with our trusty old 35mm friend, no learning curve, and best of all, at one-tenth the cost of new!
I bought his camera for vacations so that I'd have a good range of focal lengths without having to carry a lot of extra lenses, and for ease of operation while traveling. It's fulfilled that and more. The image quality is excellent, as is the zoom range. It's been extremely dependable. While the automatic mode is easy, the features/override buttons take a little getting used to. Also, by today's standards, the camera is fairly heavy. Yet, because of that, it has a sold feel.
I was looking for a Pentax Zoom 104-R 35mm camera like the one I had liked so well before it accidently encountered the sun in my car. I wanted one just like the one that was ruined. I found about 5 on e-bay. Picking one out that sounded like just what I was looking for. Then I began a real ordeal. I am new to the computer and on top of that I am older than dirt! I must have really taxed the automated machine out, but thanks to a little representative in Tuscon I was able (finally) to make the purchase and I couldn't be more pleased. She made all the difference and helped my own self esteem tremendously. I have already used the camera and found it to be just as it was represented. I am going to try again and perhaps try selling something too. Joan Costner, Guymon, Ok.
