Weltkrieg, 21 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Seit dem Tod des Kronprinzen am 30.01.1889 sind ziemlich genau 119 Jahre vergangen, doch hat das Geschehen immer noch nichts von seiner Faszination verloren. Zahlreiche Forscher haben sich seit dieser Zeit mit der Mayerling-Affare beschaftigt, wobei die Indizien von Beginn an sehr klaglich waren und auch immer noch sind. Viel wurde verwischt, oft wurde gelogen oder die Wahrheit dahingehend verbogen, um die eigene Mittaterschaft zu verschleiern. Das Kaiserhaus hat zu dieser Affare immer absolutes Stillschweigen angeordnet, Rudolf selber und insbesonders sein Ende in Mayerling wurden totgeschwiegen. So wurde bis zum Ende der Monarchie auch die Anwesenheit der jungen Mary Vetsera, die mit Rudolf in den Tod ging, konsequent verschwiegen. Dieses Schweigen war sicher ein grosser Fehler des Kaiserhauses, ebenso, dass nie eine offizielle Untersuchung zum Tode des Kronprinzen angeordnet wurde und das Volk, welches darauf brannte, die Wahrheit zu erfahren, absichtlich in Ungewissen gelassen worden ist. Dieses holte sich die Informationen schliesslich selbst, denn es gab damals schon unzahlige Geruchte uber das Ableben des Kronprinzen. Da wird von einem eifersuchtigen Foerster gesprochen, dort, dass der Kronprinz seinen Tod nur vorgetauscht hat und jetzt glucklich und anonym in Ungarn lebt. Als die Monarchie unterging bedeutete das nun aber auch den Start der offiziellen oesterreichischen Geschichtsschreibung hinsichtlich der Mayerling-Tragoedie, deren Aktualitat bis heute nicht verloren ging: Jeder Forscher wollte das Geheimnis von Mayerling luften.
