It did have the largest screen available on any phone. That's why I bought it. I needed to be able to see the screen and my eyes are telling me I'm gettin' old. Running Windows Mobile 6.1 and sporting a touch screen and accelerometer, this phone has plenty of capability. It does not have a physical keyboard but the onscreen variety functions quite well. Three things were an absolute requirement for my device. GPS, the ability to utilize Google maps on my mobile, and a pointing device. In place of the Blackberry's scroll wheel, this one has an optical mouse. It reads the movement of your thumb over the square "Select" button. Great for getting the pointer into the tiny check box that is so hard to select from the touch screen. One of these days the hackers are going to be able to use the wifi radio to create a mobile hotspot with this phone. It is great for the gadget guru who likes to play with programming and widgets. For the rest of us, it is a wonderful widget box. Get your news feeds, blog feeds, or stream internet radio through its media player. Simply open your web browser and navigate to thestreamcenter.com/pda for nearly any radio station in the English speaking world. 2 of the 5 side buttons serve dual purposes, 4 of which can be reassigned to customize your phone to your preferences. You can set the today or home screen to 2 different configurations depending on if you hold it in profile or portrait positions. Slide your finger up or down the screen to scroll through your contacts or to slide your programs screen left or right to a second page which also scrolls up and down. Set widgets on your today screen to monitor wireless radios or email or all of the above. It has 8GB of native memory and can be expanded to 16 via a micro sd card under the back cover. The longer this one's out there, the more programs and apps are available to download to further customize your handheld communications center. Given the problems this device had at launch (8GB memory yet warnings pop up with less than a single GB of data loaded in it and the gps and other features were originally locked down to Verizon's programs) which have subsequently been fixed with the ROM released just a few months later, this phone is a bit of a sleeper, meaning it is a greater value than its reputation suggests. So, when you first get your phone ensure it is running the latest ROM before you load your contacts and favorite files as you will have to do it all over again after the ROM update which you can ask your local Verizon store to do for you. If that sounds like too much trouble, simply make sure the phone you are buying has the gps unlocked. A few of the devices from the original launch are still floating around but the vast majority have either been updated or were released after the update. In fact you might be able to find a real deal if you are willing to go through the bother of taking an out of date phone to Verizon to be updated before you start it up on your contract. All in all, a good smart phone but check the specs and compare them to the most recent devices and know the requirements of the latest programs and widgets you'll want to run on it. At this point the phone has only been out for about a year. It is fullfeatured at this point, but as tech advances, I'm sure new goodies will eventually make this one look old in short order the same as the PPC6900 by HTC. Suddenly, we had to have gps, accelerometer, etc., App store?Read full review
I bought an Omnia i910 several months ago and overall I really like this phone. I'm using it with PagePlus with no problems. Call quality is excellent and I'm amazed at what this phone can do--there are hundreds of free Windows Mobile apps available. The phone does have a few quirks, which can be overcome with a little tinkering. Likes: Clear screen, lots of memory, fast, useful widgets, good phone with excellent reception, flawless wifi,GPS works great with ROM upgrade and Google maps,FM tuner, nice camera, reasonable battery life. Easy synchronization with Windows Vista (just plug in and drag and drop). Dislikes: No stylus, poor choices for keyboards, some settings are hard to find. Recommendations: Get the CF03 ROM upgrade from Samsung if it hasn't already been installed on your phone. Get an aftermarket stylus that somehow attaches to the phone (search for one on eBay; you need a stylus with Window Mobile). Get a .cab file for a new keyboard. The slide/swipe type of keyboard is much more useful than the hunt and peck kind. Find Windows Mobile apps that you will use and enjoy and install them on your phone; there is plenty of storage space--8GB, but you get a microSD card if you need more storage. There are many apps that supposedly don't work on the Omnia that are running on my phone without a problem; right now I am loving Pandora with wifi. Overall a great phone!Read full review
Fast little device, had the SCH I730 before and although I like the 730 the 910 is so much better. They can be had from auctions at great prices and since they are a Verizon phone they can be used on the Pageplus pay as you go service. The Wifi works alot better than the 730, the 730 has limitations to older hardware and standards. Opera Mobile works great on this phone, probably the best mobile browser for it, I hope Firefox gets a working mobile browser for WM. The screen is alot better, the touch interface is fine enough, with some training its pretty finger friendly. The built in accelerometer works well and the screen rotates quickly. At times I miss the slide out keyboard on the 730, but I assigned one of the buttons long press to bring up the on screen keyboard. I do not use the Touch Wiz interface that it comes with stock but it seemed to work well when I first got the phone, instead I use the SPB Mobile shell with it and it really brings this phone to life, search youtube for demos. The 5.0 megapixel camera is one of the highlights of this phone, it will not replace my 10 megapixel Samsung standalone digital camera, but it is feature rich. Auto focus, macro, and face detection. 14 different scn modes, 5 different shooting modes including smile detection and panoramic, very cool. 6 picture size choices from 320X240 all the way up to 2560X1920. Video mode from 176X144, 320X240, up to 640X480, not Hi Def but OK. This phone has GPS built in and the latest Verizon update is supposed to unlock it from Verizons VZ Navigator and allow it to work with other programs, so far I have not been able to get it to track satellites in google maps but I haven't tried too hard yet. If I can get to act as a GPS Nav with a program like Garmin that will be one less device to carry around. Google maps works great with it but I haven't been able to get the voice activated search to work with it, the SCH-I730 did. The size of the phone is nice, of course the screen is not as nice as the newer phones but they need expensive plans, I can get a pay as a go plan as low as $10.00 for 120 days of service. Uses a proprietary connector for both syncing and head phones instead of a mini usb or 2.5mm jack, synching not a big issue but a non standard head phone jack is a pain. Battery life is good as a phone, but if you use wifi or bluetooth or watch video battery life drains fast, but a larger battery means a larger phone. Pick up a couple and a standalone charger and your set. SCH-I910 has the Micro SDHC card slot that can only be accessed if the battery is taken out, kinda sucks but what can ya do. 8 gigs of built in internal storage with 16 gigs capable with a Micro SDHC, might not seem like a lot but I have put alot of programs on it and have tons of room. BTW there seems to be alot of nice apps/programs for it, not as many as or as cool as some of the ones for IPhones or Droids but still alot. If I can get the GPS to work like I want it I can combine 3 devices with this one, Phone, GPS Nav and Camera, and I freakin love that. Update 11/17/2010 Have been able to get Garmin Mobile XT up and running and it works great with this phone , I love it. Get the latest verizon update(it unlocked the GPS feature), Turn on "location" in phones settings under GPS, use a GPS toggle program like BAF GPS toggle otherwise it will not find sats. Install Garmin Mobile XT. I also have Smartphone tracker installed that will locate it via sms if its lost, lol.Read full review
The good part of the phone. 1. Long battery life 2. Captures low signal well 4. Thin and attractive 5. Windows smartphone 6. Wi-Fi 7. screen clear and crisp 8. Great price used 9. Can activate Verizon version on page plus no problem w/out expensive data plan 10. Loud 11. good phone dialer The bad part of the phone 1. Slow touch screen not remotely like iphone 2. Windows interface clunky but powerful 3. Stylus needed for certain menus (my fingertips aren't that pointy) 4. QWERTY Touch Keyboard too small (I'm not a text person so no big deal)
What can I say? It's pretty awesome. You can use widgets like on windows vista and 7, and the built in accelerometer allows for two seperate desktop scenerios. With a simple tilt, your portrait desktop changes to a different landscape desktop. You could have one for play, and one for professional usage. Samsung has also included proprietary, touch-friendly versions of popular windows apps. With a simple click of the side menu button you can get to this. That equals a total of THREE desktops full of widgets and stuff! You don't even relly need the included stylus fingers work just fine. However, a common problem is the screen calibration gets stuck, rendering the unit unusable... unless you know how to fix it! Which I do! It's an easy fix look it up on Bing search. without the stlylus and with this fixable problem, you could probably find one for $55 bucks here on ebay. Be aware, most on ebay have 8gb built-in memory and up to 32gb microsd(should it ever come out...) with a proprietary connector not usb. Luckily, if you've had previous samsung models like the blackjack 2 your accessories from that will work with it in case you purchase one off here a la carte.Read full review
I have used the Samsung SCH I1910 Omnia 2 for nearly a year. When I saw the small QWERTY keyboards and long boot-up times of some of its competitors, I was unimpressed enough not to choose them. I purchased this phone new. During its time with me, it has performed well. I enjoy the phone quality and the photo and video quality are amazing to me as well. All these features, and the ability to carry an updated resume to beam via Bluetooth, and my social networking, on one phone! As you may detect, it was my first Smartphone. Nevertheless, I am not anxious to trade it in. I understand the Windows 6.5 is not the Windows 7.0 and wish there could be some upgrades done. The one problem I have had is in trying to upgrade the phone with the one released update from September of 2010. The upgrade does not seem to take effect on my phone. Otherwise, the phone does so many wonderful things. It syncs to my desktop like my old Palm PDA, and I always have my calendar reminders available. Its storage capabilities and great video cube are useful for bringing enjoyable trips to Sanibel or the local dolphin show back to mind. Many of its same generation competitors (from December of 2009) simply don't offer the same level of quality ... for my money, at least!Read full review
This was the most affordable upgrade for me, not eligible for the contract upgrade date. Compared to the Droid or Iphone it may seem slower but I just wanted to access web, Facebook, online banking, Google, ebay...It performs well at all these. Awesome camera at 5.0 and nice big screen. Cons: Texting on screen keyboard takes some getting use to if you like an actual pull out keyboard. Battery gets sucked down after a full 12-15 hour work day. I just got another spare and make sure I plug it in my car when I can. Overall, it functions well for my purposes, and at $150. vs a $300+ (newer phone)- price was the best feature!
very nice phone, touch screen could be a little better ,and I had to update it to unlock GPS. Most other features stay the same as the SCH-i900. Most noticeably, the i910 does not include the secondary VGA camera on the front; presumably due to the lack of support for video calls in North America. The North American version of the phone uses the same 624 MHz chip used by other versions. This has been confirmed by numerous North American users through the "settings" menu on the Omnia.over all good phone :)
The phone as it comes from verizon isn't much fun to use and it isn't very powerful. It needs some tweaking, which you can do easily yourself with help from the omnia communities at modaco and/or samsung-omnia.org You'll wind up with a phone that runs very quickly (the default UI tends to lag), with a very streamlined (updates bring it to windows mobile 6.5, which is actually very good and organized) interface and work environment. The camera is phenomenal, and the capabilities are endless. You can get thousands of apps for free. I'm using one right now that turns the phone into a wifi access point, for no extra charge (verizon would charge, I think, 15 bucks a month just for tethering). Take that, palm pre plus!
Pros: Great full html opera browser!!!!!!! --- better than the safari on the iphone 8GB memory, WIFI, Haptic feedback, supports micro SDCH up to 16GB, sleek, light and great looking screen. Cons: No cons... couldn't find any especially after having an iphone for past 4 months..... Can't even make a call with an iphone..... not even in my house or at work..... fix your network AT&T. Summary: I love everything about this phone. I still have my iphone but I won't be needing it anymore and I'll make my little bro happy by giving it to him for this x-mas. I like this phone so much better than the iphone. I love the microsoft office support and the opera browser on this phone is better than the safari on my iphone. If someone tells you something different, that person's either lying to you or he/she's a just apple fanboy/girl.Read full review
