I've been a Rock Band fan all the way since the original Rock Band came out. The idea of having a full band with drums, vocals, guitar and bass play at the same time was a big step up for the music game genre at that time. Now that we have gotten used to it, Harmonix decided to add a new instrument to the game and a few addons like Pro instruments that allows you to use your real guitar, keyboard, bass and drum skills to shine. The game itself haven't changed alot since the last game, but there are some minor flaws that the developers should think about fixing. For example there is no filter for searching for random players. If you want to play with expert only players, you may have to consider joining a community site. The quickplay feature also has a few problems, for instance, if you play with randoms or anyone they can actually delete songs that you add to the setlist and there is also no way to change between bass and guitar between songs in a setlist, and yes they actually force you to make a setlist with the band so you can't pick single songs like Rock Band 2. They also removed the Score Duel and Tug Of War game mode but i don't think it will be missed. For now the keyboard seems to be more of an addition since they haven't added keyboard support to the older DLC. It also seem like the vocals also becomes more of an addition, since it now doesn't count as an instrument while playing as full band where the vocals doesn't get points or gets involved into the gameplay. There is also no mic sensitivity controller for the vocals so if you use any third party mics it will be more sensitive than it would be in Rock Band 2. Even though Pro mode teaches you to play the instrument doesn't mean that you will actually be able to play the songs on a real instruments. What i believe is that you rather play by looking at a screen than playing with the music when playing a game like Rock Band plus that pro only teaches you half of what the instruments is really about. Pro drums has it's cymbals and drums but it still misses the hi-hat pedal which is where the drummer keeps the count and beat. The Pro keys only include the chart for the right hand of the song so you only learn to play what the keyboardist play with his/her right hand. While the pro guitar and bass seems to be perfect. Despite the flaws in the game, it works fine and a few features that alot of fans would appriciate for for instance quicker loading.Read full review
I'm a little late on the Rockband bandwagon but still had fun wailing away in the living room with my roommates, jamming to some damn fine music. Through codes you are able to unlock all songs from previous Rockband's and port them to part 3. This accompanied with downloadable songs from PSNetwork makes the variety of songs quite decent. The character creator is also a decent highlight. HOWEVER, as I am a musical hermit. Theres only a few songs I actually like playing so I'm kinda burnt out pretty quick on the whole game. The character creator, although decent, is pretty limited and taxing. As every unlockable item is expensive and I'd rather not earn points playing songs I don't care about though the game. So, kinda boned there. I was a bit unimpressed with the stopping point in creativity of the game. Sure, you can make yourself as a character, create a band for you and your friends, preform at parties and sleazy dives around the world trying to work your way up as a band that ONLY covers other people's songs, but creative people are creative. We want a freeplay mode where we can make up our own songs! Fun as it may be, you are still a cover band, restrained to unoriginality.Read full review
I like that I can finally create a guy character that looks decent. The old games male character choices were limited and quite unattractive. The female choices are still good-looking, and you can customize much more in the character's faces in this game than the previous games. It's cool. The piercing accessories when customizing your character are terrible. The older games did so much better with piercings (lip piercings, nose piercings, etc) for the characters. Same with tattoos. The songs are very limited, I do not like many of them at all. I actually spent about $60 buying new music from the RB Store so I can play something I enjoy. A majority of the songs aren't even Rock genre. They're more pop or country or something! It's called ROCKband. So I bought better music. Everything else is great, gamewise. It's still fun to play, as long as you get the better music. Overall, I prefer Rockband 1 and 2. Rockband 2 is my favorite out of all 3 games.Read full review
Graphics:82/Sound:79/Control:54/Blast Force:60/Overall:68 For the record, Rock Band is a game I'm pretty good at, but can't stand. That said, I just don't like the new setup. Money has been thrown out the window along with the rest of the customization in this game. Sadly, this game is no longer about your digital self. It's about money. I'll explain: following an emerging trend in the industry of companies milking you for every penny with massive advertising to sway you, the only real change has been the pro mode which demands a change in peripherals. Although this is optional, what remains is a "roster update," and a confusing new drop-down menu system. At the very least, quick play binds created players to certain instruments, seemingly randomizing line-ups through the set list. Because money is gone, advancing your career is handle through the spade challenges and unlock new gear and clothing (for free) by advancing through career mode. The graphics seem a bit refined but have taken on the dreaded kiddie look of GH. Sound fidelity seems to have dropped dramatically although I played this on an SDTV. The bottom line is that the new gameplay and features are so underwhelming that it makes Rock Band 2 a superior game in virtually every category. My advice: if you can get the new songs as DLC, just stick with what you have. You won't miss anything, and you can take the money you saved and by an extra present or two for loved ones this year.Read full review
I confess.I am a Rock Band addict. So I will not point out negatives(if there are any). Also it was just released 1 week ago so this may be a bit premature.BUT I LOVE IT!!!.Come on EA and Harmonix!what took you so long?(just kidding). Many many improvements and additions over RB2.Easier access to your favorite songs and interactive play modes.Your scores are managed during online and offline play for your review(handy for leaderboard junkies like me)ha!.I have yet to try out Pro Mode which allows advanced players to jam to thier favorites note for note using the new keyboard or mustang guitar.Pro mode also works with your RB2 drums provided you have the cymbals.I am sure That I have not pointed out even half of the new features and improvments as I have only been playing this new addition for the past week but I recommend RB3 to all of any age. Rock Band 3 improves on the previous hits, Rock Band 1&2. The game introduces pro modes for the various instruments, as well as the all new keyboards. The UI has vastly improved, and is as near perfect as possible. Online works flawlessly over PSN, although voice chat quality with other players is not that good. The 83 new songs build on the existing great setlists from the previous games, which can be imported for a small fee, thus expanding the total library visible in Rock Band 3. A must have if you remotely enjoy rhythm games.
Rock Band 3 is definitely worth the buy or upgrade from rock band 2! It's so much more fun and the fact that you can have 7 players at a time makes it more entertaining. It also means less people have to sit and wait their turn :-P The keyboard and backing vocals new addition is really good fun as it offers more instrument experience. The whole layout of rock band 3 has been toned up and made to look much more professional, everything is easily navigated. I especially like that they've added the fact you can jump in and out whenever you like without effecting the song failing!
Just as expected. Game works well. Price was what I was looking for. Thanks!
