    Not a system drive, but A-1 for storing lots of data

    The WD Enterprise series of drives (which are also called WD Black) is built to higher quality standards than the consumer drives. They have more cache, better error detection and are designed to have longer lifetimes. They do not have fast spin rates; they spin at 5400 RPM instead of 7200. The good part of that is they are quieter than consumer drives, but the bad part is that the rotational latency is 25% greater than a consumer drive. The larger cache tends to make up for this, but it is not a drive for I/O intensive purposes such as gaming and it's definitely not a boot / system drive. For storing large amounts of data over long periods such as music and video it is hard to make a better choice than the WD Enterprise drives.
