Something needed to push against the batteries.
I needed to put a little paper towel in between the batteries & the part that goes on top of the batteries in order for it to work. The paper towel pushed against the batteries & it works good now.

Controller fixed very big problem for me. Old programmer could no longer get the input program to work which did not allow me to watch movies on my DVD/VCR machine. New controller allows me to get input program to work and I can enjoy my movies once again.
