    Violence and Harsh Cruelty is Best Served Aged

    What can I say about Berserk that fans of anime do not know? The world that the cast of Berserk thrive in is violent, harsh, and more often than not cruel to its inhabitants. Guts, the main character, is definitely a "man among men". Dealt a bad hand in life since he was born, he had a rough and emotionally scarring upbringing that made him strong and unyielding, and yet also angry and bitter. This anime follows the trials and tribulations of Guts in his time with the mercenary band Hawks and his friendship with the leader Griffith years before the events shown in episode 1. His life is cruel and unforgiving, and yet it is definitely fascinating to behold. Unfortunately the ending of the anime is a cliffhanger that pretty much states "if you want to know more, read the manga". Though this ...

    Gets a hold and never lets go.

    Berserk is one of my favorite manga series easily. This is definitely the best anime they've made based on the series. The animation is traditional and well done. The voice acting is very well done. (I don't usually watch the dubbed version, but the English audio is decent as well.) This covers the Golden Age story arc which is the rise of Griffith and the Band of the Hawk. It also serves as an origin story for the Black Swordsman Guts. There's a depth to this story you can't get in any anime. The characters are engaging and the development of the individual stories is incredible. The battle scenes are intense and do not hold anything back. Ingenious tactics and gory violence are some of the main elements utilized here.
