Synopsis
A wondrous sketchbook from a year spent in the south of France--an artist's personal journal carried everywhere and crammed with drawings and notions and thoughts surprising and whimsical. Delicate watercolors shine like jewels set into each page of this exquisite book. In tones of sea and morning sky, stucco and brick, olive leaf and apricot, rose and geranium, sara Midda captures the land, the people, the shimmering air--the whole feeling of Provence and the C te d'azur, and the spell they cast over even those who haven't visited. Interspersed throughout are photographic collages and charming observations. The whole book is printed on uncoated stock to convey the feeling of an artist's sketchbook., From Sara Midda, the artist whose first book, In and Out of the Garden, evoked all the pleasures of the English garden and received international acclaim, comes a wondrous sketchbook from a year spent in the South of France--an artist's personal journal carried everywhere and crammed with drawings and notions and thoughts surprising and whimsical. Sara Midda captures the land, the people, the shimmering air--the whole feeling of Provence and the Cote d' Azur and the spell they cast over even those who haven't been. Describing her own work, Sara Midda says: "It is an evocation, an interpretation of the everyday. It is making discoveries about ordinary things. It is not merely landscapes and buildings, but the artifacts that are the bricks and mortar of a culture."The entire volume is printed on uncoated stock to convey the feeling and texture of an artist's sketchbook., A wondrous sketchbook from a year spent in the south of France--an artist's personal journal carried everywhere and crammed with drawings and notions and thoughts surprising and whimsical. I purchased a book that I was having trouble finding. Charles had the copy in FABULOUS condition for an even more FABULOUS price! He was quick to respond, and even offered me a free t-shirt from his shop when I failed to see his discounted offer in time (silly on my end lol). He shipped it immediately and included a personal handwritten letter with a very securely wrapped and marked ‘fragile’ package. 1000000/10 service! Thank you so much, Charles!

Great seller! Item exactly as described, very well packaged and arrived quickly. The folder even has some of the paper dolls and fashions tucked inside the pockets - a very nice surprise! Great value for this awesome piece of Barbie nostalgia! I would definitely purchase from this seller again. Thank you so much!! A +++++

  • Sara Midda=a feast for the eyes

South of France: A Sketchbook is a literal AND virtual feast for the eyes. Her charming watercolors of marketplaces, shops and beautiful food discoveries on her travels make you feel like you're there. And make you want to go! Her notes include interesting backgrounds and histories of food and places, people. It is not a book you must read beginning to end; you can jump around and savor intriguing tidbits--but you will return again and again to happily find a missed gem. To use an overused but appropriate word: "Yummy!" Check out all of Midda's beautifully illustrated musings and collect them whenever you can.
