Although the head has been redesigned, it still shaves as good as the original. The big change is that instead of each cutter head flipping up for cleaning, the entire 3 head assembly pops off the frame. The other difference is you need a special tool to remove the blades from the cutter head instead of just releasing a retainer ring. I deducted one star only because I have read that Philips will soon discontinue producing replacement heads and blades for these models. That will surely drive the price up on the remaining inventory. Unless you settle for the cheap "knock off" replacement blades, these pricey razors will become obsolete before their time.

The rq 12 plus is the replacement head for rq10 because Norelco discontinued making rq10 head. The rq 12 doesnt feel smooth on the face, it doesnt glide like the rq10. Other inconviences are you have to take the head off the unit to empty your shavings or to wash vs. RQ10 where u can simply "flick" open each head to do it. Also, the rq12 head is slightly larger so u would again have to take the head off so it can body of shaver can fit into charging "coffin" Overall, if u are die-hard Norelco lover as i am, u will tolerate these inconveniences. I cant verify if rq12 shaves closer than the rq10 as i have only been using this replacement head for couple weeks. All shavers cut close when new.

I have several Norelco 1250X shavers. After a couple of years, the shave deteriorates considerably. I purchased the RTQ12+ heads at about $20 apiece. After one try, I found they were terrible, nothing like the genuine #D Gyro heads which pivot in 3 directions and which enable each of the blades to be removed. When I received the genuine head, I saw the shave was every bit as good as the shave from my brand new 1250X shaver. Bottom line, this genuine head (remanufactured) for sale on eBay at about $70 is a winner. Also the original head has blades that can be popped out with a flick of a fingernail. You can see on YouTube how to sharpen each of these blades. Find a piece of glass and put on metal polishing paste with mild abrasives. Use Brasso or a metal paste from an auto supply store. Then take each blade and turn it in the paste on the glass a couple of hundred times. The result of sharpening the blades is now a shave as good (or nearly as good) as brand new. Is it surprising that Norelco does not tell you how to sharpen blades? Is it surprising that Norelco sells the defective RQ12+ heads--so you get frustrated and decide to buy a new shaver?Read full review

An icon appeared on my shaver that I took to mean "change the heads", not unreasonable after three+ years. After reading generally negative reviews of newer (current) style replacement heads I gambled on a set of these, which I supposed were factory seconds or old stock but at least would be of the original design. They arrived promptly and in good order; installation was uneventful. The icon on my shaver that I took to mean "change the heads" was supplanted by one I took to mean "wash the heads" even though they were unused out of the box. They were also a bit noisier than the old ones. That was a bit worrisome, but after a couple of days the "wash" icon disappeared and the shaver appears to be happy 2 months in. Shave quality is noticeably better than the old ones had been delivering, and if they are noisier than the old ones I'm accustomed to it now. These were less expensive than the new design replacement heads and retain the virtues of the original design, so try as I might there's nothing to complain about. Gimme five stars.Read full review

Very disappointed in these Norelco replacement heads.. Quality is far lower than originals. High cost is unacceptable. Long term customer, but I will replace my shaver with another manufacturer as Norelco is no longer a good option.
