My first GPS is now 15 years old. Much has changed since the early days. I was wary of the touch screen, and was wrong to worry. The touch screen is a good way to control the device. The zones are large enough that they are easy to hit and the options are nicely logical. I learned my way around in about five minutes, then spent another twenty checking out the details. The internal battery will run the unit in the house while you check out details for your next trip. I do not know exactly how long the internal battery will run the unit because I have not needed to run it to its maximum. The unit uses an SD style memory card. 128 MB is the standard size and it will hold two or three state maps. This is usually plenty for most purposes, but if you are into the long haul, you can buy a 1 GB card and load it up. The downloading software comes on a DVD and includes a database of the US and Canada. A thermometer style gage shows how much memory you chosen data will take as you select states. I used a 256 MB card and loaded the neighboring six states. Most, but not all, of the restaurants in my neighborhood are listed. A gasoline vendor, recently closed, shows up on the search for fuel. Updated map data is available for a fee. Be prepared for a wait while your computer indexes the data from your chosen states. My 1.2 GHz laptop computer spent 40 minutes creating the data index and downloading six states. You will need to do this any time you change your map selection, but only then. One thing I wanted and did not get was the ability to enter a destination to which I have not been. I have coordinates for my wife's family gravesite in another state. I wanted to enter the coordinates so that I could find the site - one stone in a multi-acre collection of stones - without hunting for hours. I took an alternate way home to see how the unit handled deviation from course. It says "recaclculating" when I get 100 feet past the intersection. before the next block, it has found the next corner and instructed me to turn again. It did so for each block as I took the "back way" home. I happen to prefer the back way as it has less traffic and misses a couple of lights. The GPS does not learn my preferred path and continues to recommend that I turn to join with the main thoroughfares. I know how to get home, so it is just a curiosity. The path it picks is how I would direct a stranger to my home. Satellite detection is fairly quick, about 45 seconds from cold. Since it takes a satellite 30 seconds to transmit a full set of data, it is about as good as it will ever get. It usually will get a fix through the roof of my single-story house. It will drop out under the a metal roof, such as at the air quality testing station. Under the roof covering the pump area at a gas station it can often see enough satellites out the side maintain position tracking. The bottom line: I would buy one again.Read full review
I moved to US very recently, all places, traffic rules every thing was new for me; who loves to drive. Reading a printed copy of a map was very difficult while you are driving. Then I have a taken decision to go for GPS. Garmin StreetPilot® c320 GPS Receiver was really a very good choice for a new comer like me. Now my family and friends can really relax and enjoy the music while I am enjoying my driving. Voice instructions are very clear and very helpful, different views available will also help you. Features like miss toll way, No U-turn and so on are really very helpful. It is easy to find popular restaurants, shops. With every key-in, the device start searching the database, this feature could save your time from keying in every thing. The only draw back is, some times it provides instructions little late when you have to take turn, some times when you will reach to the destination, you have to find the exact place among the 3 - 4 near by buildings. Overall this is a very great product for every one.Read full review
I've been using it for about 1 week now. Great little unit, easy to use, superior to the Quest and 2610 that I've also owned because of its faster calculation times and ease of use. Does indeed update arrival time depending on speed (at least mine does). Seems to be accurate within a couple minutes on my daily 35 minute commute. Starts the estimate based on it's internal average speeds for highways, etc, then adjusts depending on how fast you are actually driving. I would not spend the extra money on the 330. Spend a few bucks on a 512md sd card, I've tried but can't possibly think of how to use more than that on a single trip. And I would assume the sd card is a little faster than the HDD. You get more batter life, like 2x. Also, I like being able to upload favorites from the pc using the software, so the sd version is actually preferable to me. And it looks like the price is still too high here so until it comes down check out pricegrabber or nextag. Pros -large touchscreen -easy to use -portable, 8 hour battery, pocket sized (in loose pants or jacket -fast calculation times & map drawing. -nice mounting cons -no route saving or transfering, hence no waypoints can be stored in route but this is remedied simply by saving favorites and touching your favorite in route, just a little more attention requred. -weak software.Read full review
This unit does not come pre-programmed with all the maps on it so the first thing you should do is get a 1GB card so you can get all of North America on it. It requires you to load the maps which if you are the kind of person that has trouble setting up a vcr, I know, people hardly use them any more, but you get my point, this unit is not for you. Other than that if you can get one for under 70 dollars it is a dependable and easy to use unit once you get it set up. And in my opinion I would rather have a basic Garmin than any Tom Tom, I had a Tom Tom which I sent back twice and it could not even get me home.
Things I don't like. This unit does not come preloaded with maps. You have to install them via a pc from cd to an sd card. The sd card that comes with the unit is a 125mb card which will only holds a small portion of the maps. To load the lower 48 you must use a 1gb card if you have map version 8 or higher. If you have map version 6 you will need a 2gb card. Things I like ! Once you load the unitit is easy to use. A real time save if you in an unfamiliar place needing lodging or gas. It will list these places in your location by the closest first. Then select a listing and you are supplied the phone number and location. hit the go button and it will guide you right to the place you selected. For the price this is a good unit.
