Fairly decent flare tool, one thing to note, as its a rotating die it would likely do a poor flare on copper pipe due the softness of the metal & likely twist in the die, less likely on Kunifer as its a much harder metal, it tends to do a less than perfect flare on the 1st pass, I've found by trial & error pipe needs a 2nd flare done at 90 degrees to 1st flare. Flare then looks like its been crimped in a vice mounted compression pipe flarer. Not tested on steel pipe.

Thanks for your feedback, this is very informative. Please note this is not suitable for steel pipe and should only be used on copper and Cupro Nickel hardline kunifer brake pipe because its composition of 90% copper and 10% nickel makes the pipe easier to flare and manipulate.

used it for the 1st time today on a metal brake pipe on the car and if you follow the guidelines of filing the outer and inner of the brake pipe you get a lovely perfect flare.....saved a lot of time/money by cutting into the original brake pipe at the rear of the car instead of replacing the entire 8ft length from front to rear : ) 10/10 from me : )

Tube stop too far back allowing excess pipe for flaring, resulting in deformed flares. Not Rally Design fault.

    Excellent tool

I purchased this after seeing a recommendation on YouTube. It is easy to use and after making a test double flare in copper, I went on to replace most of the pipe work on my Freelander with Kunifer. Can be used successfully in a restricted space. You'll also need a small pipe cutter and a bending tool if you want neat bends. Don't forget to put the connectors on the pipe before making a flare.

Fine on copper at its limits on steel

Whilst it performs perfectly well on copper brake lines it's at about it's limit with steel pipe. It's a perfect bit of kit for smaller jobs and would make it an essential part of your tool kit if you plan to travel as repairs can be made on the vehicle. I would normally make pipes using the tool at work but due to the lockdown this wasn't possible. The tool is relatively well made and can be easily taken apart to clean time will tell how long it will last but for the price it does work

  • A great performing tool for making perfect SAE flares on the vehicle.

It's a great and well made tool, small enough to get into tight locations under the car. I bought this particular one as it was similar priced to its rivals but had a couple of advantages over them. There is a useful viewing hole to confirm the tube end is located correctly in the tool. The Handle is larger diameter, giving better grip and is detachable. Every SAE flare came out perfectly with no distortion of the tube behind the flare, on hard steel, copper nickel or soft copper brake tubing.

  • Excellent Product

My very first double-flare turned out spot on. My second one looked a little smaller !! The reason - on the second one I'd tightened the two pipe clamp nuts, but not tightened them up really well, with the result that the pipe slid very slightly in the clamp as the die was spannered into place. Having learnt this all subsequent ones came out fine. You just need to de-burr the cut pipe inside and out and make sure the cut end is good and square and that the piece of pipe presented to the tool is nice and straight with no hint of any curve - just a hint of a curve will allow it to be gripped by the tool but the resulting flare will look slightly off-centre. Excellent tool - I was using it on Nickel-Copper pipe.

  • Does what it says - easy to use.

Do not waste your money on cheap brake pipe flaring kits - I bought one, watched all the videos on Youtube and still couldn't get it to work right. Bought this and although you still need to prepare pipe ends properly, works well every time. It does also mean you can make pipes up in situ if required due to the small working area.
