I am just accepting that is the luck of the draw. Idealy it would not have failed until quite some time after the three year warrenty period, but it did. I bought the replacement from Spurtech since his price was still better than any other sellers. Fitting into and rebuilding my raid array was very good with my Synology NAS, and the replacement is performing flawlessly.

I can strongly recommend this e-bayer. The issue I had is with the manufacturer, Netgear, whose online and app-specific instructions regarding incorporation of this item into my home network were inaccurate and nearly caused me to send it back. At no point did they mention that I should connect the Orbi satellite to the Orbi router using an ethernet cable, which turned out to be the key step!
