Phyllis Hyman was a truly unique artist blessed with a heavenly voice.

The late Phyllis Hyman was blessed with both a stunningly beautiful and heavenly voice and also with stunning physical beauty and grace. This 2-CD set was issued in 1996 (Hyman committed suicide in 1995) and features a good selection of both hit singles and album-only tracks recorded and released from 1976 through 1991. Stunning ballads like "Let Somebody Love You", "Falling star", "We should Be Lovers", "The Sunshine In My Life", "Loving You Losing you", "Old Friend", "Somewhere In My Lifetime", "In A Sentimental Mood", "Why Did you Turn Me On?", "Living In Confusion" and others will leave you with no doubt as to just how great a vocalist Phyllis Hyman was. Sound quality on both discs is very good and it is obvious that all 28 songs were properly remastered from the original master ...

  • Ageless Artist, Ageless Music

I loved Phyllis Hyman's music as a kid back in the '80s and I still get that fuzzy-wuzzy feeling when I heard her music now. Not only is her voice sultry and somewhat woeful (I understand that more so now since I've learned what had happened to her), but the music she made is deep and thoughtful; reflecting the mind and soul of a tragic individual who's talent transcends time and the grave. Her music is like listening to Sade Adu, but with a more soulful flare. This is a nice collection of her music that's sure to bring back a lot of memories for folks at that "thirty-something" age, or for perveyors of QUALITY music. This is definitely one for the music collection shelf.

  • The Legacy of Phyllis Hyman by Phyllis Hyman

Phyllis had such a unique, amazing and very listenable voice. This CD has a lot of hit songs, excellent production, sweet music and great lyrics. Entertainment to the highest level. Phyllis is one of only a few singers that are blessed with the gift of sending shivers up a person's spine with their voice alone. If you want to listen to classy vocals and well thought out productions, this is the CD for you. Now that Phyllis is gone, she left us with a truly classic and perfect gift, her music. There will never be another Phyllis Hyman.

  • Perfect gem

I'm happy to finally find this CD and it plays like a gem. I replaced it for my mom. Her original one, someone borrowed it from her and damaged it.

  • Remembering Phyllis Hyman

A master song stylist gone too soon. Phyllis Hyman's voice is rich, exciting, soulful, raw, and haunting. There is no one today that compares to this vocal perfection. Phyllis pours out the very core of her soul in each selection. Anyone listening can feel the pain in remembering a past love and the darkness of being alone. Phyllis Hyman shared the joys and heartaches of her life for all to hear.
