The Novatel MiFi 4510L Wireless N router turns that wish into a speedy reality when paired with powerful Verizon Wireless technology. Measuring slightly larger than a shirt pocket but packing all the capability of devices twice its size, the tiny 3-ounce Novatel MiFi 4510L Wireless N router mobile hotspot connects multiple devices, such as cell phones, tablets, and computers, to the Verizon 4G LTE network. The Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network is one of the fastest networks available. This router provides a wireless hub so that users are able to search the web with Google, download email, or take part in online gaming, all with Verizon Wireless 4G LTE signal speed. The 4510L is a reliable mobile hotspot device, which is one of the reasons the MiFi was voted one of PC Mag’s Best Products of 2011 for its reliability and connection speeds. Even when there are no signs of Internet nearby, the Novatel MiFi picks up a signal so everyone who is using the mobile broadband stays connected. The MIFi 510L Wireless Router connects up to five different Wi-Fi enabled devices to the web through the Verizon 4G LTE network. The Novatel MiFi 4510L Wireless Router has a highly visible status display showing signal strength and battery life. The external display also shows how many devices are connected to the mobile hotspot network with a lighted dot to represent each device. The 4510L also has a port for an external antenna. Charge the router with a USB cable, or it plug it into the wall to charge the battery. When the MiFi’s battery is charging with the microUSB wall charger, the device still transmits wireless data. The MiFi 4510L is very easy to use. After turning on the device and waiting approximately 30 seconds for the MiFi to connect to the Verizon Wireless Network, it automatically appears in the available Wi-Fi connections on whatever electronic device is being used. The connection process is the same as with any other wireless connection. The 4510L features 100 feet of mobile hotspot range; however, as with most other mobile hotspot routers, it is best to stay within a 50-foot perimeter when using Wi-Fi. An automatic shutdown is the power management option for the 4510L mobile hotspot device. An initial password is provided in the materials sent with the MiFi 4510L. A web-based administrator’s panel allows users to change a password and update any software with compatible 4G LTE firmware from Verizon.

Device works well as hotspot, watch out for data usage on Verizon website
The hotspot was easy to activate with Verizon (for $35 activation fee) and all devices connected easily using. MiFi password. Connection speed is as good as TWC cable modem in 4G mode (green) and speeds are reasonable with 3G (purple). The only issue is that occasionally it will drop the connection and will require a power cycle. Seems it sometimes happens when device switches from 4G to 3G. Finally, watch out for Verizon's data usage report. Their website is very easy to check usage and I checked it very closely during the last week of my billing cycle and it showed that I was just below the 5G limit ($50 per month), but when I got the bill, I was suurprised to be over by 1.9G with a $20 overage charge. When I contacted Verizon, they did credit me the overage charge, but they could not ... The hotspot was easy to activate with Verizon (for $35 activation fee) and all devices connected easily using. Good product for mobile internet, not suited for home internet replacement.
I was hoping to replace my home internet with this device. The device is fast and holds connection well; however, it seems that it will not charge and run while the battery is in. In order for me to use this as my primary internet device it needs to be able to run entirely off of the AC adapter, but instead it would wear down the battery, then shutoff and charge. I still need to try to use it without the battery in it at all. I'm not sure if it will work or not in that case. I put my iPhone 5 nano-sim (with a nano-regular sim adapter) in this device, and was able to use my grandfathered unlimited data plan without issue (which is something that Verizon said WAS possible -- this is possible because of the deal they made when the purchased the 700Mhz spectrum for LTE I believe). Good Product Especially For Travelling! Small and easy to use!
As a Canadian I had a few problems using the unit in the USA while I travel. The Online Verizon site does not allow you to use a Canadian Credit Card to pay time for your device. Only other optipn was to use prepaid gift cards that you can get at Target etc. The device works well however. Drops out occasionally at remote locations, but aside from that it works good. The new firmware fixed a few outstnading issues. I am happy with the device.As a Canadian I had a few problems using the unit in the USA while I travel. Very reliable device, decent battery life, and it gets a good signal
I purchased this to use with my tablet for 4G internet service without having to drain my cell phone battery by tethering. Seems to get a strong reliable internet connection, have even been able to connect to my works VPN and soft phone services while on the go. Wish it had a longer lasting battery, the ability to view data usage from it's screen, and a micro SD slot for media server purposes like some of the ATT units but considering it is the second best model Verizon sells it has my vote of confidence. For those that have read negative reviews, the firmware updates have fixed most of the issues. Novatel 5410L doesn't compare with Samsung SCH-LC11
I purchased the Novatel MiFi 5410L and a Samsung SCH-LC11 for my home in a fringe area where Verizon provided the only internet access of all carriers. The Samsung signal was much stronger than the Novatel unit. This is very important using VoIP where you have to have a good upload signal as well as download. In a typical comparison test I made with 4G, the Samsung obtained an upload of 3.5 mb where the Novatel barely reached 1 mb. Not sure why but I repeated the test many times. The download signal was also much better.
