About this product

Product Information

THE ONION FIELD serves as both a true-life police thriller and a chilling indictment of the American judicial system. Two Los Angeles detectives in the 1960s stop a pair of shifty motorists. In a quick turn of events, one suspect pulls out a pistol, forces the cops to relinquish their guns, and drives them to an onion field. There, one detective is shot dead, while the other escapes. Although the suspects are soon caught, the road to justice proves bumpy, because each crook blames the other for the killing. Meanwhile, the detective who survived feels profound guilt and suffers a nervous breakdown. His condition threatens his ability to stay on the force and even propels him into making petty thefts -- not unlike those of the two men he first stopped.

Item was not the tape advertised. But the seller accepted the return promptly and money was refunded. Was a little let down because I really wanted to watch the tape advertised. But shipping went out quickly and was packaged with care. Unfortunately, just not the right tape.

  • 1979 True Crime Chiller & Scrutiny of Criminal Justice

"The Onion Field" is based upon the 1973 best selling true story that Joseph Wambaugh, a police officer, authored during the 1963 murder case of killers, Powell & Youngblood. This film centers upon their trial. Gregory Powell (James Woods-who steals the scenes), is a ex-convict who's got some untreated mental issues (to put it mildly). Jimmy Lee 'Youngblood' Smith (Franklyn Seales), is the small-time thief Powell enlists as his crime partner. Powell's the dominant schemer; Youngblood's his reluctant follower. On a night when the 2 thugs are on the road with broke brake lights, a couple of LA detectives pull them over. Powell freaks out in a panic attack, kidnaps the them & the startled Youngblood half-heartedly goes along with Powell's frenzy. Powell & Youngblood drive their captives ...

I have seen the movie Onion Field before but only part of it, I was surprisingly suspenseful and intriguing. But the dvd that I bought, you can hardly hear it.
