  • Missing some of the best parts.

Why Maazel, whose conducting work I have loved and collected for years, decided to craft a continuous condensation of the orchestral music from the Ring cycle, and in the process leave out some of the greatest moments, is beyond me. Rheingold excerpts without the final entrance of the gods into Valhalla? Why do it, then? Or cutting the final orchestral unison passage at the end of the ride of the Valkyries? Again, why? Better he should have divided it up into four separate sections, with pauses between, like a symphony. Otherwise, the sound is typically good Telarc quality. But based on this effort, I will avoid the other Wagner opera condensations.
