About this product

Product Information

Bob Fosse's semi-autobiographical film celebrates show business stripped of glitz or giddy illusions. Joe Gideon (Roy Scheider) is at the top of the heap, one of the most successful directors and choreographers in musical theatre. But he can feel his world slowly collapsing around him--his obsession with work has almost destroyed his personal life, and only his bottles of pills keep him going. As he struggles to right his relationships with his ex-wife, his lover, and his daughter, he also has to cope with his failing health. Soon it's clear he'll have to make a choice: his art--or his life. A talented director and choreographer of both film and stage, Fosse was perhaps best known for helming the film version of CABARET and creating the musical CHICAGO.

Bob Fosse's talent, lifestyle, and all that Jazz.

This is the prophetic autobiography of Bob Fosse. (He changed the names to protect the guilty!) Very flamboyant, very energetic, as Bob was himself. Owning up to his many foibles, he paints a picture of the "artiste" as both a creature that is super human in creativity, while at the same time displaying a depraved indifference to the feelings of those close to him even to his own life. He crafted a captivating tale of life viewed through is own eyes and through those of his audience. Recommended.

  • One of my all-time top-10 films--right up there with Star Wars.

I've only seen two films more than 100 times--Star Wars, and All That Jazz. This is one of those films that can't be described. It must be experienced--and the bigger the screen, the better. I've never been a fan of Musicals--but this is so much more than that that the singing and dancing, when it arrived, seemed essential to telling the lead character's compelling story. And it showcases Ben Vereen in his prime! My GOD could that man MOVE!

  • All That Jazz - in excess; over-abundance of “grease paint”

I saw this movie when it was release and I never bought a copy in any media, except the soundtrack. I love it!
