NotesIn their debut album with Big Round Records, guitarists Alex Lubet and Maja Radovanlija tap into their Jewish and Balkan heritage and transport listeners to an enigmatic and captivating aural world. Many of the works featured on The Enchanted Guitar Forest borrow from thematic material of traditional tunes from Eastern European and Jewish folk music, along with the incorporation of jazz and classical styles. A lyrical, rhythmically driven structure is the result of this compositional genius. Alex Lubert is a composer, performer, author and educator. He performs his own music as a solo artist, as well as collaborating with artists such as Guerino Mazzola, Iris Shiraishi, and Maja Radovanlija to name a few. He has performed his works on six continents, and his album Spectral Blues (2013) was received by music critic Ted Gioia among the "Best Albums of 2013." Maja Radovanlija is a native of Belgrade, Serbia, and has performed across Europe, North America, the United States, and across the Middle East. She is a member of the Minneapolis Guitar Quartet, and has won many awards and competitions. Specializing in improvised music, she frequently performs in the US with Improvised Ecosystems, and in Belgrade with the Improve Collective.
