The 224E was one of the mid-priced diecast electric train offerings from Lionel from the late 1930's until 1941. When paired with a die-cast 2224W whistling tender, it gave a heavy, powerful platform capable of pulling several passenger or freight cars. It had an electric reversing unit that allowed the operator to move the train forward and backwards from the controller. Durable and detailed, the 224E is still available and many are in great shape, even at 80+ years old.
