Kohler stator and their lifespan cycle
First, I'm not a Kohler or small engine mechanic but have a lifetime experience as an auto mechanic. That said, Kohler stators fail primarily because flywheel magnets on their engines become loose, fall off, and destroy the stator and many times the regulator/rectifier in the process. Kohler would be well advised to find an adhesive (or develop a mechanical fastener) more durable and longer lasting. To be sure, other manufacturers flywheel magnets also fail, but seemingly not at the same rate. Kohler flywheels have the magnets attached and then the flywheel is balanced, but at failure an unbalanced flywheel wreaks more damage to the engine than just the necessary replacement parts. Otherwise, Kohler makes a fine engine although certainly other engine parts fail as they do in all ... Works perfectly even though my problem was the magnets inside the flywheel were glued back in place in the wrong order. Must be north, south alternating all way around.
