A detective from Earth named Ross Syllabus transfers to a police department on Mars and is partnered with an android cop named Naomi Armitage. Together they investigate a series of murders, the victims all being "Thirds" (the most human-like andriods ever created). The story follows our two protagonists as they chase the killer and discover that these murders may have been ordered from within the highest levels of the Martian government. This OAV was the source material for Armitage III: Polymatrix movie. (Minus about 45 minutes worth of story that was cut to make the film version.) The Good: The story is a generally fast-paced but also manages to be though-provoking during the slower moments. And even though this title is a few years old, the visuals are still top-notch. Animation at it's best. Dvd version is far superior to the original VHS release back in the '90s both in video quality and giving the viewer the option to listen to the original Japanese audio track. The Bad: The english dub is to be endured rather than enjoyed and the video is in a 1.33 aspect ratio (standard tv) rather than 1.85 that makes for the best viewing on a widescreen tv. Sadly not many extras on this disk (a few art galleries and previews...that's about it. Sorry, no behind-the-scenes or making-of documentaries.) So if you enjoyed Polymatrix or the sequel Dualmatrix or ya just want to check out a quality sci-fi anime, definitely pick this one up.Read full review
Because I like the dvd packaging that the movie itself came with and also it is a welcome blast from the past from the golden age of anime!
