Steve writes in technical jargon at times, where laymen like me have little understanding, but hey, he's the greatest guitarist in the world to date. I can deal with that. He spends little time on childhood, which is good. A lot of the content seems to be based on diaries he's kept. It was nice to know what caused Tony Kaye's 'dismissal' before Wakeman. I was particularly interested in his side of the John Wetton issue during Asia's early days. Steve appears to be a serious perfectionist (which he is!) and I gather that John's alcohol addiction put a crimp in that situation. The way he speaks of Squire at times seems to indicate he had the same problem, only to a lesser degree. Howe doesn't seem to ever have been all that interested in drugs himself (unusual, for a rock star!). Steve speaks ill of nobody, and if you have an interest in his vast career, this book explains it all. And indications are that he wrote it, rather than dictated/ghost written. I'm certain he had help, but this looks like his baby, mostly. Lots of Britspeak throughout. If I can come back as anybody in my next life, I'm coming back as Steve, if Engelbert Humperdinck is taken.Read full review
