About this product

Product Information

After defeating the Vortex and returning to Home Bay with his family, Ecco thought the danger was over. After all, the Asterite had given him special powers so that he could breathe underwater without searching for air pockets. He could even use his song to blast apart objects! What harm could possibly come to this dolphin who had been through so much during his last adventure? Plenty.

It seems the Vortex wasn't destroyed, but rather weakened. Now it has hitched a ride from the dark depths of space to Ecco's home world on Earth. The alien Vortex has already started to create new enemies to infest the planet! You know what that means -- it's time to once again save the world from imminent danger.

Ecco: The Tides of Time is the sequel to 1992's Ecco the Dolphin. Players guide the dolphin through treacherous waters while using sonar to help navigate. Various enemies such as jellyfish, sharks and sea worms threaten to injure Ecco, so you must carefully swim to avoid contact with them. You'll also have to keep an eye on Ecco's air meter (the powers granted by the Asterite will wear off after the first level). Once it gets low, you'll have to travel up to the surface or find submerged bubbles to replenish his breath.

The game involves puzzle-solving as well, since there may be enemies or obstacles that cannot be overcome unless you first figure out the solution. This typically involves finding assorted glyphs that will offer clues. The following features are also included: the ability to temporarily morph into a shark, seagull or jellyfish; a password save that allows players to resume progress throughout the game's forty levels; and five 3D sequences where you can jump through rings!

  • Great game for the kids but awesome for all ages

This is the second ecco game for sega genesis. Ecco is older and stronger in this game but he is also engulfed by dangers. The evil vortex has shattered the mystical Asterite. Ecco and Trellia, a beautiful dolphin from the future, cross 100 million years of time to save the dolphins and all life on earth. Ecco morphs! Charge a metasphere to become a shark with all of its fighting power. Or you can change into a seagull and fly. You can safely swim past dangerous creatures as a jellyfish too. Over 40 levels of spectacular aquatic adveture and dont worry there is a password save so dont let 40 levels intimidate you. I think there is also 5 levels of 3-D travels out in the vast waters of the open ocean too.

  • classic!

Excellent game! Very atmospheric, immersible and definitely an improvement on the original, not just in difficulty but in the variety of the missions as well. Why would anyone write this off because you're playing a dolphin when it's the sequel to a great, unique game which also stars a dolphin as the main character? A more likely reason would be the frustrating (but short) first level. On a side note, I feel it has a similar atmosphere to Super Metroid, except this feels even more alien because of the underwater setting and story.

  • No issues

    Went smooth . Would recommend

  • The Second Ecco...

This is the second installment in the Ecco series...it has great graphics. Beautiful background scenary but the game is much harder. It continues the story of alien invasion from the first game. I like the first game much better.
