Wow, other reviewers apparently are confused and think they are reviewing their seller and not the actual film. I'll drop an actual review of the film to make up for their incompetence. This film has pacing issues and doesn't really feel like an X-Men movie. It has Wolverine and a senile Prof. X, but they are the only returning X-Men characters making an appearance, and any other mutants have been removed from the story and world of this film for an unexplained reason. Apparently mutants just stopped being born for some reason. But it still would have been nice to see more of them. I point to Days of Future Past as a FANTASTIC X-Men film that included a distant future in which, while mutants have still been hunted to near extinction, we still get to see a few really cool ones struggling to survive. Seems like this movie goes out of the way to take a bursting fictional universe filled with vibrant, diverse, fascinating characters, and remove near all of them in favor of having more gun fights (BORING), more Wolverine carnage (less boring), and a lot of non-specific running from people. When I say non-specific, I mean this movie doesn't have a great plot. What are they running from? Some company linked to Alkali Lake. Who's in charge if it? No one we recognize (no Striker, etc.). What do they want? Never really defined at all. Who is the main villain? There isn't a compelling one. Some lame scientist dude who's making artificial mutant kids, and some normal dude who has a robotic hand. Woo. They get no time to outline their goals or make anyone care about them. No more interesting antagonistic mutants. The absence of Magneto is SORELY felt. There's a void in the villain chair for this film, and its a serious enough void that it impacts the whole impression. I can't stress this enough: if your villain sucks, your movie SUCKS. This is like the Silverado of X-Men movies. It has slow pacing, not enough action, and doesn't know that it's supposed to be an X-Men movie like that film doesn't know it's supposed to be a Western. Instead, drama gets more attention, cool action sequences get minimized, and the plot lacks clarity or driving direction. What we get is a film that bounces along without "getting much done" feels as washed up as Wolverine does in this film. Now THAT is a credit to Hugh Jackman, who does the role the justice he always does. I just wish there was at the very least a geriatric Sabertooth or a senile Mystique or some other mutants in the film to remind me that this is in fact an X-Men film and not some boring new action film that just happens to have a guy with claws in it. I blame the director. It honestly says a lot about you if you think your X-Men film warrants being released with a black and white "Noir" version on its own disc. That's where the priority was? Seems like this movie was an art project for him. He should have read a comic book and digested a few more BIFS and BAMS before making this. Seeing this makes me realize how much better the Bryan Singer films are. At least that director let the franchise be what it should more. The fundamental problem with this movie is it plays down the comic book feel, when really, any X-Men movie should be embracing that with all its cheesiness. This film is trying to be something else. And in trying to be something else, it forgot that the plot and the VILLAINS are still critical to a movie. Refer to earlier X-Men films, even the original trilogy, for a much better approach to making X-Men into film.Read full review
