    Great entertainment.

    Many people have tried to adapt this Musical comedy to the big screen, most of the movie adaptation's were okay but nothing to brag about.This movie had people like Kevin Kline,Linda Ronstadt and others that just seemed to rocket this film to another level. I never thought of Kevin Kline as a singer but he does a decent job and of course Linda Ronstadt has sang a little of everything so of course she was wonderful. It's a comedy that most people are familiar with. Jokes and laughs come at you hard and fast. Give it a shot!

    I am sure....

    .....that there will be folks, G&S purists, who will take exception to my assessment here, but for me, this is the definitive Pirates of Penzance. Dashing, utterly piratical, and with a massive dollop of sheer rollicking fun, Kevin Kline, Angela Lansbury, Linda Ronstadt, and Rex Smith romp their way through a well timed, wonderfully staged, and superbly filmed productiin of Gilbert and Sullivan's paean to the Victorian sense of duty. I can give no higher praise than that which I have for this production.

    Truly original, and so much fun

    We've adored this production for many years, and are glad to finally have it on DVD. Kevin Kline really earned his Tony for his role as the Pirate King--he is quick, expressive, and hilarious. Linda Ronstadt is a sparkling Mabel and Tony Azito's one-of-a-kind elegantly awkward dancing as the police captain is a revelation. Fun for kids, despite the advanced vocabulary.

    Long ago still funny

    I remember the pirates of pensance from ages ago, today it may seem dated and maybe a little campy, BUT that's all part of the charm. A charming funny film recommend for anytime.
