Synopsis
Lidia Bastianich, loved by millions of Americans for her simple, delectable Italian cooking, gives us her most instructive and personal cookbook yet. Focusing on the Italian-American kitchen--the cooking she encountered when she first came to America as a young adolescent--Lidia pays homage to this "cuisine of adaptation born of necessity." But she transforms it subtly with her light, discriminating touch, using the authentic ingredients, not accessible to the early immigrants, which are all so readily available today. The aromatic flavors of fine Italian olive oil, imported Parmigiano-Reggiano and Gorgonzola dolce latte, fresh basil, oregano, and rosemary, sun-sweetened San Marzano tomatoes, prosciutto, and pancetta permeate the dishes she makes in her Italian-American kitchen today. And they will transform for you this time-honored cuisine, as you cook with Lidia, learning from her the many secret, sensuous touches that make her food superlative. You'll find recipes for Scampi alla Buonavia (the garlicky shrimp that became so popular when Lidia served the dish at her first restaurant, Buonavia), Clams Casino (with roasted peppers and good American bacon), Caesar Salad (shaved Parmigiano makes the difference), baked cannelloni (with roasted pork and mortadella), and lasagna (blanketed in her special Italian-American Meat Sauce). But just as Lidia introduced new Italian regional dishes to her appreciative clientele in Queens in the seventies, so she dazzles us now with pasta dishes such as Bucatini with Chanterelles, Spring Peas, and Prosciutto, and Long Fusilli with Mussels, Saffron, and Zucchini. And she is a master at teaching us how to make our own ravioli, featherlight gnocchi, and genuine Neapolitan pizza. Laced with stories about her experiences in America and her discoveries as a cook, this enchanting book is both a pleasure to read and a joy to cook from., From the beloved TV chef and best-selling author--loved by millions of Americans for her simple, delectable Italian cooking--comes her most instructive and personal cookbook yet. This seller packed this lovely lamp and shade unbelievably well. In all the years I’ve been a buyer I have rarely seen any item so well packed. I’ve had about ten people who have done this. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy anything from this seller. It’s as described. The seller shipped it quickly, and answered my questions very promptly. Thank you for a great experience.

    Italian food lover's basic book

Being raised in a very Italian community, my early years to the age of 18 were blessed by a lot of wonderful Italian cooking. The flavors and aromas of those early years are brought back with this lovely book. The "how to's" of making the pasta from scratch to picking the right types of tomatoes makes a great deal of difference in the finished product from store bought ingredients. Lovely book. Glad I bought it.

  • Ladia's Italian-Ameriacn Kitchen

This book is just fabulous Lidia has the gift of being a super great Italian cook all of her recipes are full of such great flavor and taste that you could eat all of her food every day and just ask for more. I have five of her books and let me tell you each recipe gets better and better. If you enjoy cooking Italian food like I do you will want all of her books because you will never get tired of making her recipes her sauce is great and like my nona called it in the old days ( gravy), It seems like yesterday when my nona would put a large bowl of( gravy) on the Sunday dinner table when we sat down to eat with the family. To sum it all up buy Lidia's cook books and you won't be sorry. Thanks & God Bless Bill
