    Absolutely brilliant

I was struggling with the useless virgin media WiFi. I was getting 360Mb at the box using a wired ether net connection but only around a fifth of that sat 6 feet away via WiFi and less than half of that in rooms upstairs. I had tried range extenders and the plug in devices without any significant increase in coverage. I then bought the deco and everything changed. I now get only slightly less than the 360Mb sat 6 foot away via WiFi and the upstairs is around 300Mb via WiFi. I live in a typical 4 bed detached and bought the 3 pack but I reckon I could have got away with only two. They were easy to set up via the app and have been very stable for the past few weeks since purchasing. Best thing I have bought for the house in ages.

    Misleading

I'm a network engineer 1. Slow, only 7-8MB/s to my server, old Wi-Fi was 38-45MB/s 2. No resilience. If a node goes down, the mesh goes down, no rerouting 3. No ethernet backhaul. Doesn't use cabled network, keeps using slower wifi backhaul. 4. Poor latency. Pings are higher than current router, also alarmingly high delays randomly. I can't see how anyone can think this is an upgrade

  • Good system with a minor issue

The units have given my house the good WiFi signal that I desired with only one issue. All units are connected via Ethernet back-haul so the speeds are great but any clients connected to the third unit had major ping spike issues. This caused my lad to have major issues playing online as he would freeze often and I was unable to have a Teams meeting as the audio would drop out every 10 seconds or so. This was confirmed as packet loss and ping spikes by pining the router. After some searching on the forums I solved the issue by disabling MESH for the clients that were having issues. This doesn't appear to have helped everyone though so YMMV. It's not perfect but I'm more than pleased now the system is working as I wanted. Mine is running in access point mode as it was the only way to ...

  • Only to be expected for the price..?

These mesh WiFi systems aren't the cheapest way of extending your coverage, however, I have to say it was really very simple to set up. I live in a victorian terraced house with plenty of solid walls, which required various repeaters to get reasonable coverage from front to back and top to bottom. The Deco 5 triple has cured all the dead spots in the house at first attempt at placing the units in sensible locations - they obviously need a mains socket nearby. A nice bonus was extending coverage to the garden decking. Laptops and mobiles now get seamless coverage wherever they roam and stationary kit, PC, TVs etc can be hard wired if desired. So far, I see no down side..!

  • Mostly Good

Works well and is easy to set up. Once set up and connected to your existing router, it creates it's own wifi network with it's own password that is independent of your original network. This caused a few problems with some of my connected stuff (Philips Hue, Sonos and Hive) that I'm still attempting to resolve. My router is a Virgin Hub 3 and I understand that it might have to be switched to work solely in 'modern' mode for the new network to operate without problems. This remains not done so far as for some reason my router no longer recognises it's password. No doubt these minor problems will be overcome with a little more investigation, but I could have done without them. Summing up, I do still recommend the TP-Link kit, but bare in mind that everything might not go as smoothly as you ...
