    It's a filter for my coffee maker

    I have a plumbed in coffee maker. This filter and it's "in-line" holder treat the water that goes to my coffee machine. It keeps grit out of the valves and cleans up any taste issue (our water is actually fine so probably not much improvement on the part of the filter). It's little expensive but I only replace them every 9 months to a year. Six months is recommended by GE but they don't need to be replaced that often. We probably pull about five to six cups of water per day through the filter. I don't trust the Chinese knock-offs and I only buy the genuine GE filters. Call me paranoid but who knows what's in the knock-offs? I don't. My only disappointment is that the filter for my coffee machine and the very similar filter for my refrigerator ice maker are not compatible. They are almost exactly the same. Would be great if there was one of these filters for both applications.

    Great filter

    This an an older but very good filter from a top notch company. It has great specs and is NSF approved. It lasts almost a year for us, we change it when the water doesn’t taste as good anymore. I did have to buy some extension tubing and connectors from Home D but that was a one time thing, now I just replace the cartridge every 9 months or so. Water tastes great.

    Getting hard to find now

    GXRLQ and GXRLQR have been discontinued by GE so all you can find now are new old stock. The latest ones I've found were from 2007 and 2012. Carbon doesn't degrade so they should be fine. The GE new replacement filters aren't highly rated and I didn't want to try any aftermarket types.
