  • Sometimes, you need an analogue meter!

I cut my technician teeth on this meter and the Tek 453 scope. Each has a special place in my heart. Beyond nostalgia, however, people tend to forget how good these meters still are! There are definite applications for an analogue meter - such as peaking circuits or use in an environment where there's RF voltage that would scramble the readings of a DMM. I have friends who swear by the Simpson 260 but they are pretty much contemporaries and very similar to each other. I prefer the big, red pointer for the switch and how it's semi-recessed. If you decide to purchase one of these in an auction or fixed-price sale, you should know a few things first: Usually, price is an indicator of condition and functionality. The meter uses a common D cell battery plus a 30V industrial battery. The 30V battery is available with searching and should cost you about $12-15. If the batteries have been left in the meter for years, you will likely find heavy leakage from the batteries which may affect the meter's function - particularly if the leakage found its way into the switch contacts. All of the various series are 98% functional equivalents. The more recent meters are rated for "only" 5000V instead of 6000V.

  • Been There

My old analog meter finally bite the dust. It was a Model 60 Triplett and had seen its belter days. It's nice having a heavier duty meter to rely on. And a great vender to work with. I would recommend them to anyone. Know anyone looking for a Model 60? Frank...

  • I'm old school and would buy again

What I used when working as Electronic Tech years ago. Works good for its age.

  • Nice vintage meter

Good meter for its age. The leads were expectedly dry rotted, but the meter still works well for a 20+ year old. These are on par with Simpson 260's.

This does work and is as clean as the day it was manufactured. A fried resistor but it comes with the territory, no biggie.
