Panasonic DMC FZ-1000 meeting my expectations. All in one, great zoom, lens quality

I am very pleased with my Panasonic DMC FZ-1000. I am not a professional photographer although I have had a couple of different DSLRs and wanted something simple but with a lot of options and good lens quality. So far I have been very pleased. I took some indoor real estate photos and used the HDR feature. I am really looking forward to trying out all the options on the camera. So far I am very pleased.

    Close But Not Quite...

This is a good value only if purchased for well below the retail price. The menu system is less than intuitive and the controls are unnecessarily complicated. It feels fragile and is not dust or moisture proof. (It is no match for the Sony RX10 IV.) Beware, internal motor noise is audible in ALL video shot using the internal microphone!

  • Fantastic Bridge Camera at a great price

This is an amazing camera. I upgrade Panasonic cameras every few years and this replaced a FZ200 which was already amazing. A bit larger physically and a shorter zoom, but the additional pixels allows a similar zoom equivalent. The larger sensor makes a big difference in low light and the “focus peaking” is really helpful in macro shooting. One huge improvement for me is the dedicated drive where I can set the shutter release to 2 seconds and not have to reset it on each shot while I take tripod mounted shots of dioramas I construct. Haven’t had time to experiment with the Wi-Fi or the 4K video yet. The advanced, Included owners Manuel pdf is one of the best ones they have done yet. Not only is the Table of Contents and Index linked, but each page has links to other pages and it’s easy to understand. It’s all you need to understand the camera features. The book and pdf by Graham Houghton is not as well organized, not as clear in parts and has no index or links, but does cover many other shooting methods and accessories not in the manufactures pdf.

  • Excellent Camera at an extremely competitive price.

This camera is very comfortable and easy to use. It takes very sharp pictures and has many great features. It is now my favorite camera. I think the only thing I would add would be a touchscreen.

  • Excellent image quality from the Lumix FZ1000

While it is not a small camera, it is much lighter than a similar size SLR. I am very pleased with image quality and ease of use. There are numerous settings and features but it's easy to just start shooting and get good photos.

  • Good value, quality camera with a LONG lens reach.

Great camera for someone not wanting to get into DSLR but still have lots of versatility. The 2.7 crop factor of the 1" images sensor is fine for soft-copy images but not great for making large prints (due to small sensor limitations). Very much a programable camera but way too many options and alternative settings that can confuse a beginner. Good value and image quality being what it is. Love the wide-angle to telephoto range.

  • Jury is still out

I read it was a good bridge camera and if you didn’t want to have an advanced/expensive camera with all kinds of attachments, this camera was a nice compromise. I had a canon that was similar but less advanced years ago and I didn’t need a manual to be able to operate it. This camera has so many features that I can’t take a picture that’s clear/focused, with good color saturation yet. I’m sure if I read the manual and/or YouTube videos I’d learn more, but I was hoping it would be more intuitive than it is. Plus it’s a big camera, much heavier than the 8 megapixel canon which was the perfect size. Hoping I’ll be able to figure it out and get used to all the different features so it’s not something that I only use once in a blue moon.

  • Better than expected

It's a large camera but impressive features and quality, better than I expected. Low light capability without flash is just so superior to my previous Nikon P610 they are not remotely in the same class. And also again with flash there is no comparison to the range. Wish the lens cap had a tether, only a matter of time till it is lost.

  • Excellent budget high end camera

The FZ-1000 is very intuitive, has tons of useful features, and has great picture quality. If you don't want to spend more for and interchangeable lens camera and don't need their added versatility, this is a great option.

  • One of the best bridge cameras you can get for a fantastic price.

Great product! Fantastic price. I'll an amateur photographer that wanted something more than a point and shoot to take with me on motorcycle trips. It's very light to hold, a little bulky (as expected from a bridge camera). I look forward to learning more about it but I just took it out to Leavenworth and took some great photos!
