About this product
Product Information
Published to coincide with the first major joint retrospective, which opened at the Barbican Gallery on 20 February 1997, this book compares the careers of two of the world's most famous potters and assesses their impact on modern ceramics. Both remarkable and celebrated talents individually, there is a symmetry to the work of Lucie Rid and Hans Coper which is evident to even the inexperienced eye. Since their first meeting in 1946, when Hans came to make buttons for Lucie in her workshop in London's Albion Mews, they were to influence each other for the rest of their lives. From the delicate sgraffito decoration on Lucie's early tableware, to the monumental sculputural forms which were to characterize Hans's later work, there are many common threads which reveal their mutual inspiration. Both emigres, she from Vienna and he from Dresden, they shared a distinctly European spirit of modern design, and together they can be credited with bringing ceramics to the fore as an art form.

- c***e (153)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseItem as described, superbly protectively packaged and dispatched superfast ( bought at 4pm on a Monday and arrived at 12pm on the Wednesday). This seems to be quite a large seller; I'm surprised I haven't encountered them before. In any event I am sure you can have complete confidence in them as, unlike many others, they seem to have fully grasped the meaning of the phrase "customer service"!
- a***a (21)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseI am delighted to have found this wonderful book at such a reasonable price. The book was exactly as described, with only minor wear to the dust jacket and the pages in very good condition given its age. The seller communicated promptly throughout the process and the book arrived quickly and extremely well packaged. Many thanks - I am very pleased with this purchase and more than happy to recommend this seller. The Historical Source Book for Scribes by Patricia Lovett, Michelle P. Brown (#335814397889)
- 1***l (239)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseItem came packaged as it was shown. While I appreciate the fast shipping, the cardboard packaging inside package, had ridges inside that made imprints/marks into the pages of the book. I seen other sellers use bubble wrap or even plastic wrap to ensure this didn't happen, so I hope the seller can change it or find some better form of protection for shipping books. Since this is a hard-to-find book, I won't ask for a refund or anything. A good find, and a good seller nonetheless.Juvenal in English by Juvenal, Martin M. Winkler (Paperback, 2001) (#335464771746)
