    The Best And Most Comprehensive Documentary On The First World War

    This 1965 made 26 episode documentary of the First World War is unique in many ways. First, the quality of the film is startling. It is clear and detailed, unlike what is seen in most history documentaries since. In this regard, there are also some shockingly clear images and footage of casualties, both men and animal. Second, many veterans, both male and female, are interviewed who actually witnessed the events being discussed. Women on the home front are interviewed, both housewives and factory workers as well as fighting men from all sides. As the film was made with the cooperation of British, Canadian and Australian television corporations, the focus is largely on the British throughout. The episodes are each just over 39 minutes long. Michael Redgrave is the narrator throughout.
