he Western Digital My Passport Ultra Black External Hard Drive (WDBMWV0020BBK-NESN) has a capacity of 2TB. It lets you take your entire digital library with you wherever you go. Weighing just eight ounces, this 2.5-inch WD external hard drive is small enough to carry around in your pocket. The portable external hard drive supports both Windows PCs and Mac computers. Its USB 3.0 interface enables fast data transfers and is compatible with USB 2.0 ports, too. You can set the device to back up your files easily. In addition to local backups, the drive also offers cloud backups to the customer. The cloud ensures that files are safe even if you lose the hard drive.The portable Western Digital My Passport Ultra Black External Hard Drive is compatible with Windows XP and Windows Vista. Windows 7 and Windows 8 are also compatible. This product is compatible with Windows 8 File History, making backups a breeze. The WD Windows 8 app enables digital media like video on the HDD to be automatically recognized, displayed, and organized. For Macintosh users, the hard drive is compatible with Mac OS X Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion. Due to its USB 3.0 functionality, this HDD may also be used to expand the storage capacity of your Xbox One gaming console. By default, the drive is formatted as one NTFS partition for compatibility with Windows operating systems. If you wish to use the drive with a Macintosh operating system, it will need to be reformatted to a single HFS+J partition. This reformatting can be easily done using the Disk Utility available on most Mac operating systems. This 2TB Passport model features local and cloud backup using WD SmartWare Pro automatic backup software. WD SmartWare uses minimal system resources while working quietly in the background to protect your data through automatic and continuous backups. This software allows you to schedule backups of your files to run only at specifically scheduled times. The software allows for either file or folder backups. The included WD Security utility lets you set a password to access your files. Hardware encryption can also be set up to provide additional protection from unauthorized access to your device. WD Drive Utilities enable you to register your HDD online, run diagnostics on the device, and set timers for various HDD activities. Cloud backup is provided using Dropbox and requires a Dropbox account.The highly portable Passport Ultra weighs only 0.23 kg or roughly half a pound. It has a height of 20.9mm, depth of 110.5mm, and width of 82.0mm. Drives of this type are built for enhanced durability, shock tolerance, and long-term reliability. The capacity is 2TB, and the maximum Serial Bus Transfer Rate over USB 3.0 is 5 Gb/s. No separate power supply is needed because the device is powered by the USB connection. It is available in a wide variety of colors, including black, blue, red, white, and titanium. Great, with only one minor complaint
The drive is tiny, quiet, and works great with my Xbox One. My only complaint is the blinking/pulsing white light. I use this drive in my bedroom, and the light is surprisingly distracting in the middle of the night. Even if you face the light away from you (either directly away or to the side) it is still bright enough to create a flashing glow on the wall it is pointing at. Putting black tap over the light seems to be the popular solution in forums (and works for me), but it would be nice if there were a setting that could be tweaked to turn this light off.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

It might not work on your laptop unless you ask WD for a different cable.
I have two windows laptops. It works on my old Dell laptop, but doesn't work on my newer HP laptop. It's most likely because the cable it came with, doesn't bring enough power to the drive to make it recognized on my HP and requires a different cable that puts out a higher amount of power to the drive. in my review of this passport they are just so cool to have you can take them any where when you have a laptop or pc at home if you love to keep lot's of your music this it the one to have to sent files to a friend or family members who love music an sent your copys to a cell phone or just add to there pc or laptop it very quiet an very fast if you have some files on your pc they you save this also great to have copy to your passport an keep them safe if you lost them in your pc or laptop you have a back up save on your passport never have to worry the passport doe's have a back up when you set it up to your pc when done it will ask you do you want to save all you files if yes it will do that for you so this will come in handy if not then you can do this bye your self i have 5 of these passport for my 3 laptops an the other's i keep in handy when one of them get full other than that being said they are great to have when you need back up of you files an music get one an you can save everything on what you have on your pc or mac they are great to have very reliable,quiet,an fast get one you wont be sorry this is my review of the passport.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

A Solid Gold Buy!
At $64.99 this 2TB Passport external HDD was a "not to miss bargain" with an added bonus of easily fitting into your pocket or purse for convenient portability. If you're using a computer with a HDD that has less than 2TB's storage then try using this Passport Ultra HDD as a dual purpose drive by shrinking the volume and splitting it off into 2 partitions, one for your HDD backup using the WD software (included) and another for those miscellaneous portable files, for use just like a portable USB drive. FIRST before you begin this process be certain to copy all the WD's files to a folder on your computer and then you can write them back to the first partition once you finish splitting this into 2 partitions. if you don't copy these files to a folder on your computer and if you don't write them back to the first partition you could loose all WD files that came with this drive along with the possibility of loosing all functionality of the back up system and that would be a bad thing .Disclaimer: Of course I will not assume any responsibility for any problems encountered while attempting this modification. This modification could render your new WD My Passport Ultra 2TB External Hard Drive, USB 3.0, Black, USB Powered as useless if done incorrectly. Works wonderfully
I love the WD products. I have never had a problem and I highly recommend them. My only bad experience was when I dropped one on a hard floor and it quit working.
